Yet another TAIPAN Vet...177 standard

So after hearing so much about these rifles I finally took the plunge to see what all the hoopla was about. For the shooting I do which is about 95% in my backyard or a Field Target course I wanted the Taipan Vet in .177!

My initial thoughts were how solid this.rifle feels...probaly due to the compact nature of a bullpup but the feel of everything just feels solid and right! I'm I'm talking about the cocking...trigger..shot cycle and.how quiet it is right out of the box. The laminate stock I got looks good as well and I quickly added a few things to meet my needs better.

Since most of my shooting is from a bum bag in the Field Target position I needed to add a front rail which I can then attach a hamster to. I found my preferred rail a anschutz rail at Mac 1 and was half off at $15. I had to cut about an inch of it off and.installed it under the forend so I can attach a hamster or bipod to. The second thing I did was to take off the rubber buttpad and install a rail so I can use a butthook while shooting Field Target. Both were easy installs and give me.the options I need when shooting field target.

Initially I put a Hawke 2-7x compact scope on it but will soon change this to something with more magnification. The hawke is fine for general airgun use but I definately need more magnification for shooting groups at 50 yards. I have only sighted this rifle in and was a one shot group at 25 yds so initial accuracy meets my expectations but the real test is when I stretch it out to 50yds.

I also added a aftermarket hammer spring adjustment screw which makes it quick and easy to adjust the hammer spring.

My initial thoughts on this rifle are very positive but I haven't had the chance to really get behind the trigger...these are just initial thoughts. So there will be more coming in a few days about it's accuracy...hopefully it will shoot 1/2" groups at 50yds.

I got this rifle from Talon Tunes and was on a pre order list for this standard .177. Tony was great to work with and adjusted the trigger to his likeing....I plan on shooting this at 20ft lbs with JSB 13.4 monsters. I also have this same exact rifle with a gray laminate stock that has been stuck in customs. When it gets released I'll be selling it if anyone is looking 😉. Pm me if your interested.

Looks good! I was torn between getting the stock you did or the green for my .25. Ended up with the green and really like it. One question, what was involved with installing the tension screw? It looks like that little 2 prong system would be a real pain to work with, and I was just wondering how easy it is to change out.

Take out the grub screw on the left side of the receiver...unscrew the hammer spring screw...replace it with the new one...put new grub screw on left side of receiver. Takes 2 minutes

And always make sure the gun in NOT COCKED when installing OR adjusting both the factory screw and the Speed Dialer.

Sweet Vet you got there, Kdog!

You landed a really nice stock 👍

Thank you for sharing pics.

So today I adjusted the hammer spring down to 12ft lbs and was shooting jsb 8.4s at 800fps. Filled to 210 bar and at 135bar I was at 100 shots. Extreme spread of 20fps with a high of 815 and low of 795. Accuracy wise it will shoot this pellet at 50yds dime size 5 shot groups. It took me all of 2 minutes to adjust the speed from 20ft lbs down to 12ft lbs and tht was shooting it over the chrono checking the speeds while making adjustments. So if I filled to 250 bar and have this at 12ft lbs it will get over 200 shots on a fill. Really impressed how versatile this bullpup is.
