X-sight IR illuminator modification

The CR123 batteries for the IR illuminator are way too expensive so I made an adapter for the ATN power pack to power it up also.

The cable was made from a spare USB cable for something long gone ( I hope anyway). The connector for the lamp end is a standard 5 mm power connector from Radio Shack.
The unit works great and now I dont have to replace batteries. I did find rechargeable 123 on Amazon for $30 but this is way cheaper.

Badammo,

I just bought an X Sight II to put on my Condor. May I ask you which dovetail to Picatinny adapter you used?

The scope hasn't arrived yet but the seller sent me pics of it and it has the same illuminator as yours. Your modification looks brilliant and I may use it if I decide that the illuminator is adequate for my needs (most have purchased more powerful illuminators to replace this one).

It looks like you have made some sort of black tube to hold the wires. What is that? Looks like something you made on a 3D printer. What is its purpose?

Thanks

BeemanR7 I used UTG rail adapters for the scope rail. They were about 10 bucks for a pair from airgun depot. http://www.airgundepot.com/utg-weaver-to-11mm-or-3-8-dovetail-adapter.html  They work great without adding any height.
The tube was made of uhmw plastic. Its purpose is to take up the space where the batteries go and to house the power connector. It was a simple job on the lathe.
The illuminator that came with mine is good out to 50 yards so I have not replaced it. I don't shoot rabbits past that anyway. The power cord was made up of spares I had, just be careful of polarity.

Thanks for replying badammo.
Your right, that should work.

However on the the ATN 850 Pro Illuminator it uses a single 18650 battery as I can see (?), delivering 3.7V

I'll just order a simple Step-down DC DC Converter 5V to 3.7V off of eBay and test that.
They are pretty small so I should be able to make a little mount and put it inside the illuminator it self, and have the usb cable stick out in the back.

I'll come back with more details when I get the parts, ordered the X-Sight II 3-14 yesterday, along with a anker 20000mAh powerbank, cable and the Atn 850 Illuminator.
