X Barrel Cleaning Recommendation

Hey guys.

Had my FX Impact X .22 for a while now. Got the hang of tuning it and having a wonderful time. I had a regular smooth twist 25 cal barrel on for a while and just changed back to the 22 X barrel. 22 is such a sweet all round calibre IMO and is definitely my favorite. Anyway, I was having trouble with my zero not holding exactly right and groups opening up quite a bit. Removed the barrel and had a look down it to find quite a bit of lead fouling/slivers of lead in the rifling. It probably had around 1000 rounds through since its initial clean. I pushed a few pellets down the barrel and it felt quite rough and grindy with a very defined choke at the end. I scrubbed the barrel and cleaned it out until it was sparkling. Pushed another pellet down and it felt a lot better. Reassembled gun and tested it. WOW this thing is a laser. I think as the barrel was getting dirty, the regulator and other parts were wearing in and then I cleaned the barrel and its shooting pellet on pellet at 40-50m. Better than new. I guess my point is that if you are having any issues with your STX barrels I highly recommend a thorough cleaning before looking elswhere. Also, I remember reading about someone on here polishing their liner to help shine it up a bit more and it really helped stop lead build up. I was going to give this a go but not completely sure of the process. Using either bore paste or polishing cloth do you run it up and down with the rifling or spin it in the barrel while working it back and forth? I would love to hear from anyone who has actually done this on a Smooth Twist X liner and hear their results.

Thanks

James.

I have a fx crown in .22 which also need regular cleaning to keep accuracy. My barrel liner usually gets dirty at the end of the barrel where the choke is. I can see the gunk with naked eye, if I use a flashlight and look true the barrel.

After I started lubing the pellets with some ballistol, I have shoot probably 2-3 tins, and all look still shiny. And so far litle or no POI change. So it might be worth trying some lube on the pellets if you need to clean often.
