I managed a couple more cards for ya today. You know how I love to embarrass myself on here ;-)
You had asked me about those damaged tins I received so I shot a couple of cards from the worst tin.
I guess you could call it sorted since I discarded about 44 deformed pellets from the tin. 44/400 gave me about a 11% percent that were damaged.
I didn't look them over under a magnifying glass or anything like that. Just kicked out what I saw with the naked eye and certainly didn't weigh them!
Shot the first card off my el' cheapo Bald Eagle front rest with rear bag from the trusty ol' picnic table at 28 yds, just a hair over the 25 meter limit.
Shooting the 13.4 gr JSB monsters about 7:30 pm in mid 80 degree weather with low humidity and almost no breeze for a change.
I flubbed the very first shot on the first card and barely eeked out a 9 on that shot then it was ten ring after ten ring till shot 20? And really flubbed 21 through 25?
So I scored a 245 with 7 x's on that card. Then tried a second card and I got worse? 242 with 5 x's.
Here's the first card, figured the second card wasn't even worth posting.

It's hard to tell? But that's the first time I shot 18 ten rings in a row? I don't have your skills, so it's hard to tell if it's me or the pellets or whatever ;-)
I do know this is the most consistent shooting rifle I have shot for accuracy so far.

Thanks for the information on targets, I will contact Joe and order some. I have to admit I've been following this thread for some time and the cards that you guys are shooting are very impressive ( I'm no where near that caliber of shooting!) this type of shooting is very challenging, but also fun, and I can see why it could be addictive!

Jimmy -had a chance to shoot a set with them new JSBs - had hoped that the wind would die down but a storm front is moving in, at least it cooled things off a bit
but my best investment so far has been the portable fans! The Milwalkee is super- with a loin battery that goes on forever -
but that Labradar eats AA batteries like crazy- just put a set in, and after and hour or so says -not enough battery power to show a reading? Fck that- need to hook er up to a 5volt cellphone charger - skip the batteries -

No time to shoot this evening had to mow grass before dark.
Tried to check my Labradar against my Combro MK4 , but wasn't paying attention and blew the Combro off the end of the barrel. It's pretty much FUBAR. Just glad I didn't shoot the Labradar. If I can ever find my damn F-1 Chrony I want to do a comparison?

I'll help ya with the pain Jimmy. I got to mounting my scope and sighting in my AA at 30yds today after work. I even got some shots over the chrony. Set at 780fps avg I got an es of 7.8fps with a SD of 3 for 30 rounds. Oh, and no more regulator creep. The culprit was a metal shaving embedded in the valve face, which had also scored the valve body. All is good in my world now though and I will have time to shoot some underwhelming cards tomorrow.
On a side note, I had asked Todd Banks(MD of the North East Regionals) to set up a couple of FT lanes for the afternoon on saturday and he decided to leave the whole course in place! So I get to shoot a BR match in the morning, and a FT match that same afternoon.

Think I'm going to order the JSB monsters, and give them a try, have been using JSB 10.3's & believe or not some old CP's 10.5 gr., they average around 890fps, my E.S. on the JSB's are 15fps while the CP's are 10fps. I can average smaller groups with the CP's but more flyers? I weigh all the pellets and have to wash the CP's (very dirty), probably wont shoot now for a couple wks, family coming into town! buy the way I live in MI. quite warm up here for us! (95deg)

Today I noticed the box for my ProChrono says "Accuracy of 1%".
Yikes. How can you evaluate ES in the range of 1% of FPS, when the measuring device itself introduces this much error?

Oh man, best of luck at the Regionals John.Todd sure sounds like a nice fellow! Love your dedication man. Hoping we can get Frank motivated to go, but I understand the difficulties of a 1000 mile trek!

we mainly shoot the 25 bull USARB BenchRest targets though as some of us go to area shooting events to compete ---
your Steyr looks like a real shooter as well! Keep em coming -
Kim - on the accuracy issue with Labradars and standard Chronographs - I think for the type of shooting we do -+/- 1% should suffice
in my day job I use more eleaberate equipment such as Co detectors - and they need higher accuracy - also need to be recertifeid on a regular basis --

I agree that 1% is good enough to make sure you're shooting in a given power class - Open, HV, etc. But what about evaluating ES?

I've found that ES of up to twenty really has little difference on poi -- at 25 meters -
now if we are talking reaching out past 100 yards --
would need considerably tighter ES --readings as well -
the Thomas shoots somewhere between 10 and 15 ES on most days --
with negligible difference in POI --
'wind seems to be the biggest mitigating factor -
but it's always a good idea to use two chronys for comparison -
I think for tournament qualification -maybe two different brands should be on hand?
