WRABF…..ERABSF…..USARB 25 meterTarget post 11/30/15

Looks Damn good to me Jimmy! Your first card with your New Rig! Not to shabby-
but man this heat is oppressive ! Maybe I'm just getting old but- I didn't even want to break everything down and haul it all in. Course not going to leave all my stuff out in this humidity !
But get out early or really late and practice- you'll be nailing them 750s easy as pie!
great shooting!
waiting to see some cards from you as well, Paul !
Gotta air condition that bench😬
Peace and sweatin in strange places Grease

My windows of opportunity will be few and far between in this wretched heat and humidity ;-)
I dunno....just stepped outside and it felt like I was in an alternate universe compared to just a few minutes earlier, so I jumped out there and slung some lead.
I'll take 240's off a bipod any day ;-)
Didn't even have time to run it across the chrony.

That's another incredible Thomas! I like the FT furniture on that rifle....looks real sharp!
Congrats on the score of you BR shots...a huge improvement from your other rifles. If you ever give up FT, you can give CK a run for his money in BR. Those Thomas rifles are incredible, but I think I am going to save up for a new RAW with the polygon barrel.
I hope it cools off for you out there....I would love to see more targets from you.
I am going to a match at LD'S this weekend, so hopefully I can post some cards from my match.
Great shooting Jimmy....and a Great Rifle!!
Peace and Pellet Grease

Thanks Ken, hope you're doing well man. Anything new with your Ataman? Would love to have a M2R Ultra Compact, but have too many airguns as it is. I have all 3 calibers in my Cricket rifles now and don't have enough time to shoot them ;-) Traded my FX 400 for a .22 Cricket to round out my collection. Love my Crickets.

Thanks Mike, hope all is well with my west coast brother. Can't wait for your photo spread from LD's match. You always do a really amazing job with the posts on those matches and I'll be expecting the same on this one.

I keep hearing good things about those Raws with the polygon barrels. Are you going to stick with .22 or try the .177 this go around?

I got to thinking about something today that didn't cross my mind yesterday. I kept noticing that the 10 ring kept moving around in my sight picture on my scope and was thinking it was fuzzy or just not as clear as things usually are? Then today it dawned on me that it was probably heat waves distorting my view kind of like a mirage effect? Can only imagine how that plays games with a sniper shooting thousands of yards in the heat?

Do you guys ever experience heat waves or mirage effect when shooting at LD's?

Hey Mike -good luck at LDs match this weekend !
i think you should give the Thomas a go? You've already got a RAW-
and in the end -the price spread isn't that far off- when you figure you'd have three rifles in one- can't switch the RAW from one discipline to another without returning it to the factory? Not unless Martin is rolling out a new BenchRest rig?

First off congrats Jimmy. That is one sweet machine👍. The mirage, or heat wave you see does mess with ranging. Shooting at 12X it's not so bad as at say 35. The positive being that if you slowly range from you to the target those heat waves will tell you what winds up to 5 or so mph are doing. When shooting at 11.8 fpe with my s500 and then the fwb at 11 the difference in wind drift is noticable.

Also I'll have my S500 back from the shop week in time for a FT match at Salem N.Y. After the match I'll also spend a couple hours shooting 9n the BR range to try and get a feel for the place. I'll need all the help I can get.

Jimmy, we had heat wave distortion on day one at the Crosman AA in the field. The Sightron did not seem to show the ranges that far off to me. I just took a little longer to get the clearest picture I could. It hit on my ranges fine.

Now out in Arizona it may be another story.....lol.

Jlohn is correct on using the waves for doping the wind. I did do that on a couple of far targets and it hit.

"Coldking"Hey Mike -good luck at LDs match this weekend !

You're probably right, I should look into a Thomas....I just have so much faith in my RAW. But I will have to do a lot of saving for a new purchase. I still need to get a Randolph rest and a better BR stock for my 1000X. Money been tight lately, so most of these projects are on the back burner.
Jimmy
There is sometimes a mirage effect , but we shoot early in the morning while it's still cool out. We usually finish before 12 when the effect is more noticeable. Ya, that mirage can be a pain in the butt and really throw off your aim.
As far as the new rifle's caliber...I think I will try a .177.
Thanks for the encouragement for the weekend match....I'll do the best that I can. My RAW seems to be performing very well with the new batch of pellets so I am very hopeful that I will do well. It's going to be some tough competition.

thanks Jimmy! the Ataman is back in Randy hands, it was in .22 and tuned for 50m BR ,, i could only get 735-740 scores with it., Lauguage barrier from Russia, a new .177 is being made and hope to have by summers end. in the mean time Martin is making a BM500 poly tubed match gun, should be here in 5 weeks. Talked to Martin and told him what i expected and my goals out of this gun and he assured me it will be setting good scores for the east coast...Havnt been shooting too much, im in the heat all day at work and just want to chill when i get home. My heart isnt good for shooting, my pulse instanly doubles at any given time. Going in hospital this wednesday for heart ablations that should fix me up good...lol. i need nice perdictable heart rate to shoot competitively.

Oh man. Sounds like you have some atrial fibrillation. Got a friend who has battled that his whole life. He's in his 70's now so that's good news. Probably live longer than me ;-)
Hope they can get it fixed for ya.
I know what ya mean about that heat. I have to come home and take a nap just to function for the rest of the evening ;-)

Wish I had the cash to try one of those Raw's with the poly barrel, but I like the dual functionality of this Thomas, being able to shoot FT and try my hand at BR. That set me back quite a bit. Would have to sell a couple of Crickets to get a Raw ;-) And I don't see that happening ;-)

Best of luck Wednesday. Stay cool brotha!

CK, I just don't know how you do it?!? I tried the best that I could, but my score is nowhere near your perfection. I did score my very first 250 on a single card. That made me very Happy!! I meant to take pictures of the whole match at LD's, but I got too busy concentrating on my shooting that it totally slipped my mind. I did manage to get some shots of my cards.

My first card was a 244 with 10X

My 2nd card was a 242 with 6X

My 3rd card was a 250 with 9X

Total score is 736 with 25X

Though the score is far from CK's, I was very pleased with the results.
By the way, I took 2nd in the match. Matt Kellerman took 1st with a score of 738 24X, and Roger Lovitt took 3rd with a score of 731 ?X

Thanks CK. The conditions were beautiful. A slight breeze that switched directions suddenly, so you really had to pay attention to the flags.
My rifle is setup to shoot open class. The rest of the guys had their rigs set for HV. But we always just lump it all together.
It's funny, I was starting to believe that my rifle/myself wasn't capable of shooting a 250/250. Now that I know it is possible. I will practice even harder. And one day, I will tie one of your perfect scores. Hope that day come soon...lol
Peace and Perfection grease
