WRABF…..ERABSF…..USARB 25 meterTarget post 11/30/15

You have a happy Fourth as well Frank. I just got in from my third day of working on range marks and clicks for my FT match next weekend. I started with a blank canvas all three days, and today I finally understand the trajectory of a 8.4g pellet moving at 740fps. I'm happy with how I'm shooting the FWB seated, and confident with the range numbers and clicks that I won't be touching it again until friday. Well, maybe thursday before I head out just to be sure everything is functioning properly but that's just par for the course when headed to a big match. I didn't have time to shoot any cards but I will be changing gears after his upcoming weekend to prepare for todds match at the end of the month,. I'll be posting cards though I won't be scoring them as I have no plug to do so. Peace and Fireworks grease. John

John, don't you use Pellet Path or other program to get the clicks values?

I start with PP by shooting at a dot at 10 yds with the gun set to the zero. Then measuring down to get the inches or mm i plug it into PP. Then the same at 55 yds. PP will give me a set of click values. I then shoot again at the same ranges and usclicks off the program to be sure it is on.

After that I plug those ranges into the Eric Sanders Scope Knob program. That gives me perfect scope knob valueands prints a tape for the oversized elev knob. It also makes a nice side comma wheel tape too.

PS, the pistol is dead on fir next weekend. See you then.

You have a great evening John- and a good week as well
seems like a lot goes into the FT Game ? Getting the knobs dialed in and hash marks correct - on the wheel -ranging out to 55 yards angled shots ---
I think that I'm going to wait till after this season to try my hand at FT -hope you score well at your upcoming event -
'hell barely have time to shoot BenchRest ---
I was surprised that I didn't get any emergency calls today- ( happy as well) after 34 years it's really getting old----as am I 😬
I think you could use a .223 bullet as a plug? Until you get one from a vender ?
Anyhoot -
Happy Fourth of July John
Peace and kaboom Grease

Thanks Jimmy - I try to shoot a set every day now. Won't switch to LV or Open until after this upcoming match. I Gotta take Duke with me- even without the fourth -he'd have a fit !
But last night he went crazy - barking and panting - this fourth thing is really hard on him as with most dogs -
peace and can't wait till the kabooms are over Grease

Thanks Guys. As for me ranging all by hand there is more than one reason. First I had suspicions that my Aeon 10-40x56 was going to give me the same temp induced ranging shift that the Aeon 6-24x50 does, and I was correct. In temp near and above 80f it will range one yard shorter when set up at temps lower than 77/78. Also I needed the trigger time with the gun.scope combo as I only shot one match with it, having set it up and hour prior to that match. The wind has also been different in direction and intensity the past three days and pellet at such a low velocity tend to do funny things in low winds(under5mph), let alone winds gusting to 15/20mph.

Paul, I know from shooting hunter that at 18-20fpe you can be a bit off with your clicks and hold overs at close and long ranges and still knock down the target, Shooting at 10.26fpe the clicks need to be much more precise. A computer can get you close but you are still guessing the bc for the program.. Shooting the gun in position is much more precise, and gives me the confidence of knowing it will hit exactly were it needs to every time. Remember folks, it's only my third year shooting in competition and I haven't been shooting pb's either. While most of ya have learned from parent, uncle, the military and have many more years of trigger time at this point than I.

got outa work, well, side work an hour ago, wil be prepping for my trip to the crosman shoot after work tomorrow, then off to the races thursday afternoon. Like I said though Next week will see me shooting cards vs. knockdown targets leading up to the NE Regionals. Of course I noticed the FWB doesn't much like being rested on the forestock, as it is much more accurate rested on my knee with the riser. Then again it's original purpose is to be a 10 olympic rifle, so it makes sense. I'll figure out how to use it rested. I've got a few weeks until todds match. Oh yeah, blah blah blah shooting and 750 grease ;)

Oh, I saw your post on the yellow, or is it green BR forum. Gotta love the naysayers and nerdowells. Who would ever be of the opinion that if I can't do it then no one can? The guy tuning my air arms was the first to shoot a 250 25x off bags, outdoors at a national BR event. Before that happened it could never be done. Just keep laughing and shooting them cards. You'll get to stuff it in there faces some day.

Thanks John - hope you get er dialed in before the match- hotter than hell here- and to damn busy-
but I love to occasionally post on the "Green"--- only takes a few minutes for the ash holes to come out of the wood work -
I had a bet with a guy,and even called out the ones that would respond - predictable is an understatement -
but I'm still waiting to see some photos of score cards ----
but looking at the scores posted??? Hmmmmm
Peace and hyped up on poly grease

P.S
have a safe trip

very impressive CK
its nice to see that when you invest the time those scores are achievable
I would love to have the time to invest but right now I'm focusing on FT with my Steyr and my new FX Ranchero for the national's.
If you want a good laugh come up here to the national FT match and watch me shoot ..... at best, I suck at FT..My last FT match, I scored 2 out of 60... yep, you read that right... but at least I have fun, and really, is that not what all this is about?
on an indoor range I have never shot anything less that a 250 card with my Thomas so it's all about learning to read the wind, again something I suck at but Im hoping to improve with practice when I have time.

Thanks Mark! --------Hahaha! I've never shot FT - so when the slim opportunity came to shoot- I passed -
will give er a go maybe next year? But hell -I can't find venues to shoot BenchRest that don't involve circumnavigating the globe😬
I do believe most of the guys the run the circuit are retired?
But I've heard stories of indoor BenchRest matches where the guys complained about the air conditioning coming on and fcking with their shot?
but to really get good at this discipline requires endless practice and going to different ranges - I'm sure each one has its on tricks -
'not unlike sporting events were home team has the advantage -
the guys that shoot at places like Oxnard on a regular basis most definately have an atvantage over the guy that just flys in--
I like to shoot for fun- but when it comes to a competitive match--
i will wish you good luck at the FT match-- just gotta practice --
