i live in No Calif and drive 2 hours to shoot at Grants Pass Oregon gun club
both of my guns are Mikes very early design and that is a screw on cap covering the fill port
in nice weather i have almost a perfect place to practice

it is nice to shoot out there
but not good practice for competition
too protected from the wind
and the range in Grants Pass has wind as do most outdoor ranges
i get more wind in my front yard then amongst the trees
BTW: i drove 12 hours to Oxnard

Ken, You did better than I did yesterday. I was shooting the same target with my .177 Cricket at 30 yds and had errant shots all over the place. I cleaned the barrel and brought the target into 25 yds and it seemed to settle down a bit, but the dang wind was switching back and forth on me. I'm gonna blame it on the wind. The wind was just to crazy to even try it this evening. My lot is surrounded by trees/forest on three sides and when the wind comes in from the north side which is the only open side, it just does some crazy stuff in my back yard?

Hell I didn't even attempt to shoot today. Winds were whipping up to 30 mph here--
decided to wait till better conditions -

Hey Jimmy, more than CK but CK too. The wind separates the men from the boys when shooting for score. My first Nations(FT) was in alabama in 2014. Day one saw steady winds of 15mph with gust over thirty. I now practice in all but rainy conditions.

John, I know what you mean. When we shot at the nationals together, that first day was unbelievable.

Since then I have been practicing in the wind when ever I can. I have improved as long as I can tell it is blowing at the target.

Oh I practice constantly in wind- if I waited for calm conditions , I'd never get in any practice
The most difficult winds to read are switch winds-
but also to separate the men from the boys - so to speak- gotta get way out there- past the 100yard mark--

Thanks CK,
I shoot with Jim and his Thomas gun at Precision Airguns and I'm always (except once) coming up just short.
sometimes you just have to bite the bullet, or in this case the pellet..
on the bright side I can dedicate the Steyr to FT instead of changing it over from benchrest to FT and back again.

Jim's a shooter ain't he? I mean that's stiff competition -
but if he's shooting a Thomas and your shooting a Thomas -should be a hoot to shoot ;-)
I was out just a it ago shooting - the wind is totally whacked now, gusts above the 30 mark --

Gotta Silhouette -pistol match tomorrow that I should have been practicing for, but this BenchRest is addictive

Im looking for a substance that AIDS in diminishing barrel fouling -
either this or some other lube?
