Would this help with moisture - or is it Just Wishful Thinking?

If PCP's are filled with a moist source & no filters you'll definitely see mist expelled.

Exactly why after a long time I learned to buy new or only from people who have a E quality breathing air compressor like myself. 

If the gun is actually vertical, that is no angle at all, then yeh, most likely it would expel the moisture.

Though I doubt it would make any difference, with or without a pellet. The air is still moved from the regulator chamber to the breach, then out. Of course firing the gun while vertical indoors, without a pellet would...be preferable.

best way to expel moisture is to degas and dissassemble then wipe down the inside and orings with a light application of silicone oil ...

Putting HPA in an oil contaminated container is a disaster waiting to happen. People using air to replace the propellant in flamable WD40 spray cans is a good example.
