Woodchucks verses Badgers

It was sunny and 60* today. Thought there might be a chuck out sunning himself along the creek bank. I was right. I spotted one lying on a log on top of a brush pile about 150 yards out. I snuck up to what I thought was 50 yards. That is what I have my .40 Badger sighted in at. What a satisfying sound it was to hear that 160 grain slug hit and blow him off the backside of the pile! So far this spring it’s Badger 2 and chucks 0.

I took one last year. Here we call them ground hogs. Got a family digging under my out building and getting in my wife’s garden. It took me a while to get their pattern and get set up close enough. The only option I had for a shot had my building in the foreground. So I couldn’t use any of my .22 long rifle. A small one came out right on schedule and I took him with a well placed shot with .177 between the ear and the eye. I was prone on the deck behind a hand rail and a bush about 20 yards. I still have a couple of more and the Stremline should give me more options.
