Withdrawal pains

If you don’t mind me asking, was it just a lamenectomy? Keep in mind, if you have a job that requires a lot of physical work(construction as an example) you’re looking at 5-6 months before being able to strap on the bags. If you have an office type job 6-8 weeks down time, and even then, the sitting behind a desk is actually worse for you. If I were you, and if it’s not a financial hardship, take all the time to heal, cause if you don’t heal right, you’ll be back under the knife. Take it from me, as I’ve had 7, and possibly looking at 8. I’ll know better by mid April when I see my Dr. I never rushed back to work, either.

i always gave each surgery adequate heal time, and bounced back to my career as a sheet metal worker doing construction. As soon as the Dr gives you the green light for physical therapy, do it, and make it a goal to strengthen your core and keep the unnecessary pounds off. Take up yoga and invest in an inversion bed, to relieve any compression on the discs.

I know none of what I said is Airgun related, but I’m sure after what you’ve gone thru you don’t mind the advice I’m giving, boss.

Bigragu,

I had a Lumbar Fusion. Two pins put in 4-5 vertebrae. Another disc cleaned out. Luckly for me, I’m retired from both Raytheon and the Military so I do have very good insurance so I’m luckly not to have a financial burden. You are right though, I plan on taking it very easy and not pushing things. I will do exacatly what the doctor tells me to do or not to do. My three sons also live within an hour drive from me so they will mow yard or whatever else I need help with. I am blessed with good kids.

All right then, sounds like you have good family support, and I can tell by your thought process that you’re not gonna do anything foolish, like try and hand pump a pcp, lol.

Having said that, I hope you’ve invested in a tank for fill ups and/or a compressor. I stupidly bought a Hill pump two years ago when I got into this, cause I let my ego get the best of me. At that time I already had 4 surgeries under my belt. What was I thinking!!! I ended up using that Hill pump two times, and said later to that, and got an Airhog tank kit.

Bigragu

yes, I have three 45 minute and one 30 minute SCBA tanks and two 68 ci tanks and an Omega air compressor. Before surgery I made sure all were full and even put one up on the bench beside the compressor. I do have a Benjamin hand pump but haven’t used it since I got the compressor in late 2015. I even made sure two of the tanks were cascaded together so I don’t have to move a tank around. The three 45 minute tanks are mounted on my old Cowboy Action gun cart so they are on a four wheel cart. The 68 ci. Tanks are used to shoot teathered, one for the Discovery and the other for Marauder rifle, pistol and if required, Gauntlet.

I tried to think of as much as possible before the surgery. Probably missed something, but at least I tried. Of course, the Gauntlet and Marauder rifle are too heavy to use right now. Even hung heavy carpet at the end of the shop to stop co2 BB pistols if I want to shoot them.

Just found out they will release me from rehab in the morning to go home. Of course I’ll have physical therapy at home for two or three weeks or so. Doctor removes 19 staples from back on Friday and I should get a good idea how long I will be on very limited actions. Got a feeling it will be for a good while. Being retired, I can just take it easy and do exacatly what doctor says. At least I’m able to walk again without being in constant pain in the right leg. It’s a wonder what these doctors can do now days.

Thanks guys for all the kind words and encouragement.

....i'm still benefitting from the steroid injections , but my ex-wife went thru that . she did it all w/out good coverage and put it off till she couldnt move . it was bad . she's pretty healed up now tho. i was gonna mention that i smuggled some american airgunner magazines into rehab when i went . send me pm with a good mailing addy , if you'd like them . - paul . ...o , yeah... crosman 2400 kt is lighter than prod . i have a few of those too , and pcp (prod internals) versions - get around 18 ftlbs for 20 shots and fill to 2400 psi. . my mom's place is about 3-4 miles from the texas airgun show . lemme know if i can help. i havent done ANY shooting lately - theyre collecting dust .

Its really been nice all the kind words, etc. on the surgery. Came home yesterday and doctor took staples out today. Said take it easy for 6 weeks, but that my surgery went real well. Feel good for someone with about a 5 inch cut being made up the back. Doc told me to get out and do some walking which I've had trouble doing the last 8 months.I guess for 78, I'm doing ok.
