At home here on the farm I have set up my own range that I've spent countless hours of enjoyment shooting on. Shoot out of a heated shop, across a 50 yard gravel pad with a shop and trees along the right and a house and trees along the left. At the 50 yard mark there is a line of orchard trees to shoot between and then across the field out to 100 plus yards. Point is there are lots of obstacles to cause the wind to swirl. The wind that swirls is a lot like shooting at EBR when the wind is blowing there which is all the time. I have total confidence in my guns after shooting thousands of rounds through them practicing and on a calm day they will stack pellet on pellet. I have spent hour upon hour trying to read the wind and have built all kinds of wind flags. Even gone so far as to light old road flares and watch the smoke. i've observed that with the wind swirling around obstacles there are times where you simply can not predict whats it's doing and where the shot is going to go. During these times I have even tried allowing for and shooting an average to achieve a higher score. All with no clear result. At EBR in the sportsman class this year I think I was high in one relay and 2nd in another, only to tank in the finals. I am simply at a loss to read the wind. Sylvan

As you've learned swirling wind are unpredictable and not to be shot through for score. What you need to practice is recognizing and shooting quickly in a predictable wind. If you watch footage of air rifle or pb bencherest champions shooting they wait for the wind(s) they know and shoot as fast as is accurate during those conditions unless pressed for time.
