Wildcat MKIII Sniper vs DreamPup, A Quick Bull-Pup PCP Battle

Hello AirgunNation Peoples,

These Bull-Pups have got me spoiled! I was an early adopter of both the FX Dreamline/DreamPup almost two years ago, and the FX Wildcat MKIII Sniper eight months ago. Its also been a little while since I have made any tuning changes or added any additional accessories.

Besides these B-Pups being different models and of different calibers .22(DP) and .25(WC MKIII) they have very similar setups on both. Including, superior STX liners, plenum extensions, Huma-air gauges, barrel bands, custom tunes, H. Sidewinder FFP scopes, bipods and pic-rails, slings, etc.

Today, I decided to break out my two Bull-Pup PCP’s, their choice heavy JSB hunting pellets, their favorite Nielsen HP slugs, and my digital caliper. The PCP battle ground was the backyard range shooting a white painted gong at 100 yards flinging 5 shots for each projectile. Just a quick group size contest I conducted between my two FX Bull-Pup babies.

Here are the PCP’s.

Then I shot my DreamPup’s 5 shot 100yard group with the Nielsen 23g HP slugs.

Now, it’s time for the Wildcat MKIII “Snipe-Doggy-Dogg” .25 at 100yards for 5 with the JSB 33.95g King Heavy.

After that I launched some Nielsen 33.5g HP Slugs out of the MKIII, again @ 100yrds for a 5 shot total.

All groups completed, I walked out with my digital calipers to get some photos of the gong targets and measurements (widest center-to-center) of the four groups.

Lastly, here are the individual center-to-center 5 shot group from 100 yards measurements. The paint splatters can be different to discern, but my measurements were from the center’s of the projectile’s lead impressions on the steel gong.

Like mentioned, at the start of this post. These Bull-Pups have got me spoiled, all under 2 inches from 100 yards! Fair is fair though... The DreamPup .22 just edged out the win today in group size over the Wildcat MKIII .25 Sniper. Today.. Wonder if the results would be the same in higher winds? Thanks for viewing!

Those are some great groups!

What kind of velocities were you getting with the .25 vs. the .22. Is the Wildcat quite a bit more powerful or not?

Thanks.

Thank you.

Each airgun was on their respective full throttle power tune. The DreamPup .22 adjusted to “.25/.30” and “MAX”, and the Wildcat MKIII Sniper .25 power level #7. Yes, the WC MKIII has about 20+ FPE over the DreamPup.

Semi-bullpups. Rear mounted receiver guns.

Real bullpups are short (most under 26", but up to 30" max.) guns made for close combat fighting. Look it up..!

Mike

I looked it up...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullpup

Bullpup

bullpup firearm is one with its action behind the trigger. This creates an overall more compact and maneuverable weapon in comparison to conventional firearm designs with the same length of the gun barrel, and maintains advantages of a long barrel such as better muzzle velocity and accuracy while reducing the overall size and weight.

Limousines are not cars, they are semi-cars. Real cars are much shorter..!

Joe it seems shooting those types of groups must get supper boring and I think you need a new project. So..... why don't I just take the Wildcat off your hands and you can move on to something more interesting.

Mike... man come on.... really?

On the contrary, ackc1234, shooting these types of groups is super fun. So, I may just hold on to my Wildcat for little longer. Lol!

Beautiful groups Joe, you really got those bp's smoking that lead down range

Appreciate it Sonny!

They pack a punch and hit the target.

Just woke up to read this tread, and as always, a pleasure. Reading your threads is like watching a great flick! Thanks again, KoolJoe, for the detailed posting.

As far as taking on a project, I agree, why not pick up something like a hatsan or a Marauder and try and see how close you can get it to shooting like these baby’s of yours.

Bigragu,

Top of my list for a project PCP air rifle would have to be the Seneca Eagle Claw, Lever Action in .25 caliber (@ $699.99). Dude, I would pop a Huma-air regulator and plenum extension in that thing. Tune her up for heavy pellets and slugs. Slap on a moderator and a quality scope. She’d be my old school style with a modern twist field PCP!!

That would be a great one, for me.

Great stuff. Thanks for taking the time to document and share all that. The Dreampup and WC MK3 are both each fighting for the #1 and #2 spot on my next-gun list. Quick question: Which one is heavier? The specs online seemed to vary between sources, and I couldn't find a clear answer.

Thanks! Per the bathroom scale, with all accessories except the bipod, they both weigh 8 pounds. They both have Hawke Sidewinder 4-16x50 FFP Scopes that weigh 1.78 pounds. So, roughly with a full air-cylinder and no scope they weigh 6 pounds and some change.

Good to know! Thanks.

Joe, excellent long distance shoot out! Both are laser guided by Joe shooting machines! I think you sell yourself a bit short on your shooting skills...you have mad skills!

I know the Wildcat MKIII’s are great guns and a big improvement over the MKII. I didn’t however, know that they were capable of that much energy with some simple modifications. The more and more I hear about the Wildcat MKIII, the more and more I like what I’m seeing. So many great guns available these days!! Thanks again. Great post.
