Let me preface this with the disclaimer I am new to this hobby, but life a long hunter and know my way around centerfire rifles and even dabbled somewhat successfully in long range shooting using said rifles. I’ve posted on here as to why air guns appeal to me and why I’ve gone “all in” and even sold some of my centerfire rifles to pay for this new endeavor. Not knowing what the heck I was doing after owning only a couple break barrels and enjoying them I watched one or two YouTube videos on the Hercules and pulled the trigger. I elected for the 35 caliber because we have coyotes, big raccoons, fox etc around the property and was hoping this would be the answer to the 223... off the porch. Here are my observations
1. The magazine is worthless. It jams and it only accepts TWO pellets on the market. The 35 caliber pellet is elusive but there are a handful on the the market. It’s accepts Hatsans offering and the JSB offering.. thats it... for 1200 bucks... that’s a joke
2. Shot count.... over hyped and impractical. You get two really good hole in hole magazines out of this. (16 shots) More than enough for hunting purposes but here is the caveat.... the best hunting rounds don’t fit in this magazine... no slugs, no polymags... etc... the third magazine drops a bunch... not enough of a drop to miss a raccoon at 25 but it’s a drop... fire three mags in this and pull out your carbon fiber tank and refill... your carbon fiber tank will be empty in 5 fills maybe 6....
3. Accuracy... hole in hole at 25-50.....75 not so much.. starts to drift ALOT. The gun is accurate and will take a predator at 75 but you better know your reticle drops and you better be in the first 16 shots... after that it is spray and pray...
4. Heavy, long, and awkward. I have tried hunting coons with this at night and its a %$G show... This thing is too long and too heavy to get on sight on target quickly. It’s as long as 50 cal BMG... not a suitable form factor for air gunning... as new as I may be this would be the last thing I would take out to hunt coons or anything at night.
5. Short of bench shooting or bling hunting this gun is abysmal. It’s heavy, long, and hard to carry. Off bags it’s hole in hole at 25-50 but a 35 isn’t generally used as a bench rest shooting gun.... Hatsan missed the mark here and I wish I had my 1200 back.
