Why so many used FX Impacts for sale?

I think it's like most new guns that generate a lot of buzz, early adopters with enough money trying them out, deciding it's not really for them long term, then selling them while availability is low and prices are high. They get to play with the latest toy and not lose much money. I don't think it's because of any inherent flaws or design problems, FX has already addressed many of the early problems. I loved my Royale, and love them or hate them FX does produce quality guns.

It's a combination of factors.

First is that people's life circumstances change. The Impact is expensive but not every owner is rich. You can see in some cases people just needed the money for something else - like bills. That $2000 gun purchase seemed like a great idea until their car broke down.

Second, no air gun is really for everyone. There will always be some people who were expecting something better or different. This applies 10x with the Impact because FX did such a good job on the marketing. If you made people believe it is the best gun ever, there will be some disappointed people.

Third, no air gun is equally good with each unit. As with any gun, person A will get one that shoots lights out while person B might get one that is just within tolerance but decidedly unimpressive.

Fourth, the Impact is capable of great things but not everybody is capable of getting great things out of it. It requires patience to sit down and mess with all the adjusters to make it perfect.

Fifth, many people put their name down thinking that, with the high demand / low supply, they could get their money back whenever they wanted. That thread "latest Impact Shipment 45 days early" was a reminder that FX will catch up and eventually, they will just be in stock like every other gun and nobody will pay full price for their 12 month old one that isn't the latest model

Six, a number of people got unlucky with issues and had to send them in for repairs a bunch of times. Even when guns are fixed, I tend to fall out of love with a gun that gave me hassle. I start worrying what happens when it is out of warranty or what will go wrong next and I am overcome with an urge to make that somebody else's problem.

lastly, there is a new model with a better shroud / ldc. An air rifle being quiet is extremely important to a large portion of the air gun world. The telescoping shroud version suddenly became much less attractive to me now that there is a better version.

I'm happy about it because it is getting close to the time I was waiting for so I can buy one. What we're seeing now is the last attempts to cash in. People posting these $2000-$3000 Impact packages better make the most of it while they can. In a few months, you will start to see some that are priced like used air rifles (I.e. Less that new ones). In fact, we already are.

While we are on the subject, I wish people would stop trying to sell "packages" period. I really don't like it when people raid their garbage and try and force me to buy all the stuff they don't want along with the air rifle. I might want to buy your gun, but not everything else in your bedroom! I want to choose my own scope and I already have a bipod and case. It's painful watching you trying to sell a used Cricket for $2000 with you wondering why nobody is buying your "great deal" and dropping the price $50 every week. Just list the gun with nothing else and it will sell if the price is fair.

The FX Impact is already super expensive. I would like the option to buy it without five scopes and eight barrels on top. When I sell my air rifle to buy your air rifle, I have a scope left over already!

LOL, for 1,800 to 2000 and above you expect perfect, When you do not get it you sell it,
I always look at the used gun list when I go to buy a gun, Mutant, Cricket or even the Vulcan,,,
Good guns do not go on the resale list in the numbers the FX has ,
I think its to much gun for the buyers and there is some problems.
My 2 cents , Take it or leave it.

I don't see how less than 5 used FX Impacts equates to "so many" being up for sale. Given the number of Impacts being sold, 2 to 5 used ones for sale can't be more than a fraction of a percent of these rifles currently out there. I haven't read any threads or talked to anyone who owns an impact that is not VERY happy with their rifle. There were some bugs that needed to be worked out of the first edition units, but even those weren't deal-breakers to those that owned them. I have a friend that goes through guns, both firearms and airguns, like I go through underwear. He buys one, shoots it for a while, absolutely loves the gun, sees a different gun he wants to try out, and sells the gun he just fell in love with. It's just how he operates. Once the novelty wears off, he wants the next newest, greatest thing. I don't have his bank account so I can't play like that, but he seems to truly enjoy doing it this way.

Personally, even if I DID have his bank account, I wouldn't sell my Impact unless someone made me a really stupid offer on it that A) enabled me to buy another one and B) made it worth going through the waiting period again. As far as I'm concerned, my Impact was the airgun purchase to end all airgun purchases. Now... Accessories...? That's a different story... :)

You're saying you'll never buy another air gun now you have your Impact?

We'll see. There is always another air gun eventually.

Given that US sales of Disco's and Marauders probably outnumber the Impact by at least 1000 to 1 I'd expect that I should be seeing about 250 of those for sale right now.......considering the same fraction......

"Bobbed06"I think its one of the nicest looking pcp rifles, but at 2k its a tad steep for me. For 25% of that you can get a nice powder burner of many flavors which kinda negates it for me.
No you can't. A nice high end powder burner bullpup is at least as expensive and some are far more expensive. What you can get for 25% of the cost of an Impact is an entry-level no frills powder burner.

To be fair you can get a nice entry level PCP for 25% of the cost too, like the new (ish) Gamo Coyote SE. For $500, they offer a regulated 22 with shrouded BSA barel. It's a great deal but hardly the equivalent of an FX Impact.

FX is a premium brand. Check out the pricing of the Desert Tech SRS A1 for a premium firearm bullpup. They are both considered to be innovative and advanced tactical bullpups in their respective markets. They both use milled aluminum frames and have interchangeable caliber kits. The Desert Tech is 4x the price of an Impact though. For the price of an Impact, you can just about pick up one of their caliber change kits but you couldn't afford the Lapua barrel.

If you aren't bothered about long range accuracy, there are cheaper firearm bullpups but still as expensive or more expensive than an Impact. OEM Tavor's and Steyr AUG bullpups both sell for $2,000 and they use a lot of cheap plastic (sorry, military spec ballistic nylon...)

if you check out the top 5 powder burner barrels in America, you'll see that you would just about be able to buy that one part of a premium gun for 25% of the Impact's price. The top barrel blanks are $350 before you pay for machining..

One advantage with firearms is that you can avoid the top brands and build a fairly decent DIY rifle with off the shelf parts. This allows you to get something nice for less but not something equivalent of the impact for 75% less. You can put together a DIY air rifle but parts aren't available to build anything good, which is shame because many people enjoy building their own.
