Why I prefer a Springer.

I've always been a spring gun guy for all the reasons already stated before me. They are a joy to shoot indoors at 10m and outdoors for informal target practice at crazy springer distances. They're what we take when we go camping.

But when I began competing in local field target events a couple of years ago and had to deal with all the usual spring gun gremlins including shifting POI I found shooting a springer to be more frustrating than motivating and enjoyable. Misery loves company and I didn't even have that as there were often no other spring gun shooters to commiserate with. Add to that my springer scores were usually near the bottom of all those posted by the PCP guys and I wasn't having as much fun as I wanted.

One day a departing club member offered me his beautiful PCP for a song and overnight I became a contender for high scores. To say there is a world of difference between my sub-12 fpe springer and my 19 fpe PCP is an understatement. I now address every target with a positive, confident attitude instead of a hopeful one like when I was shooting my springer.

I still love my spring guns a consider some of those I own to be the crème de le crème. But when it comes to consistent, repeatable performance and posting scores near or at the top of the heap, I have a new dark side and love it.
