Why I prefer a Springer.

I wake up at 4:30 getting a cup of coffee and looking forward to my walk.while sipping my brew I decide which of my airguns I'll be taking with me today. I pick my .30 Springer up and look at it. Along with the other 5 next to it. This will be the rifle I take today. Its so much fun to shoot and will definitely take down any critter I happen upon. Only a few weeks ago I took out a coyote in my pasture. He didn't know what hit him. I throw on a jacket shove a tin of pellets in my pocket and I'm out the door.

My buddies are always telling me to invest in a PCP but I shrug my shoulders and say why. They always have a bunch of explanations. More fps multiple shots etc...None making me change my mind.

After all you only need one well placed shot. I never have to pump up a cylinder carry a pump. Check gauges.

There's something special about the simplicity of a spring air rifle. They are very dependable not much can go wrong with them. They have plenty of power. They are accurate. They definitely make you a better shot. I'm staying with my Springers and will be buying a few more for the price of one PCP..

Many of you say after getting a PCP you never looked back. I however will probably never move forward. I just can't see the advantage unless I plan on trying a big bore other than my Hatsan. 30

It’s good that you are content.

I started with spring guns and they are simple to use. My heart is with my spring guns.

I also like my PCPs. They are quiet and non violent when set off. They generally carry more power and the multi shot feature is nice. I shoot them single shot a lot of the time to save on lead and pumping.

I just like trying new things. Reading the forums doesn’t help promote a sense of contentment for me though. I’m sure if I avoided the forums, I would be happier with less air rifles. Ha ha! I was happy with my spring guns for many years (still am) then I decided to try out PCPs. I still have more spring guns than PCPs.

If you are happy with spring guns, more power to ya! I would like to be satisfied with just ONE gun.

Hi Sdeath. I can sort of relate for sure. I own 2 pcps. 1 is top of the line, outstanding accuracy. Quiet, smooth, lite. But once it's out of air? back to the garage to fill it up via compressor. And a scuba tank is beyond ridiculously expensive. IT'S A BOTTLE,OK,A BOTTLE! I compare them to eye-glasses. Way,way overpriced. But my 2 springers, a break-barrel and an under-lever.( XS B-25 and the B-46) both 22 caliber. No where near top of the line examples but I enjoy them and am quite proud of how well they shoot.Discovering and learning some nuances about scopes and rings has been a needed education I was lacking, lol. I like things simple. No gadgets, widgets, smart phones and apps, range finders, hand held manufactured wind meters, gages, probes, adaptors, filters, hoses,on & on.The least amount of peripherals the better. Just a tin of pellets that you know the rifle will shoot well and I'm a happy camper.

I think everyone needs at least one PCP .it will give countless hours of frustration while you tinker and tune. 😬

your points are well made.

You might compare a springer to a good old Chevy or Ford pickup truck and a PCP to a high end foreign car.

Some of us just have to have’m

When they are right they are more fun to shoot then any gun I’ve owned. They also can be a PIA

In the smaller calibers, I find that pcps don't really offer any advantages unless you are wanting to make very precisely accurate shots at very long ranges- neither of which serves me any purpose. In the wooded areas I hunt, I'm lucky if I get a clear shot further than 30m. Springers are fine for my needs. I can hit a squirrel in the eye from 50m with my HW97kt. How much more accurate does a person need to be to put meat on the table?

Now when it comes to hunting large game with large calibers, that's where pcps offer something that springers will never be able to deliver. That to me is the true realm of the pcp.

Use the right tool for the job.

Recoil-less or pcp for me. Even sold my 300S while keeping the 601.l must admit that 300S was my favorite Springer so far.

I could probably like a Wiscomb but that's more than I want to spend.

Hated my Crowmag.

I don't like the screws coming loose, springs breaking, scopes sliding in rings, POI shifts, etc with Springer's.

In 1970 I lived in Ramstein Germany and wore out two Diana's as a kid. I've had my fill of Springer's, to each his own.

Agree large game I'll use my .50 muzzle loader or a firearm.
