Why I love my Veteran

Hadn't had the Veteran out of the cabinet in a week or so (Standard .22). Thought I should check its zero, in preparation to repel the marauding confederate squirrels. Took a seat on the bottom deck step, put up a target at 25 yards, and this was the first four shots (yeah, I chickened out on number 5, figured I'd pull it off the paper!) I didn't even dry fire it to take care of any potential reg creep. While I can't say the group is typical, especially without aid of a bench, the performance in general is absolutely typical of my experience with this rifle, extremely accurate, robust, POI never changes. And yes, it has the LW barrel that is subject to so much complaint.

Awesome guns for sure , I have a Tipan Veteran shorty .22 and it has been pure perfection in operation.

There are things I wish it had like a forward cocking arm, higher capacity mag, larger air tank , walnut stock.

If they could build a new Veteran and keep the original quality and add all of the above I bet they could sell even more units I would love to see a bottle version with no fill probe! I hate fill probes! MM

Totally awesome man!

Just curious...

How many shots do you get on a fill?

What pellets does it like?

What speed are they shooting at?

Seems the Taipan is THE pup to have.

Thanks!

I honestly don't know the shot count, but I think 60 would be close. I usually shoot the JSB 18, and have it set at around 900 fps.

Thank you!

So how did Operation Squirrel Repel go?

Must have been a good time with your Vet zeroed in so nicely.

Looks like a cease fire today, they haven't been around, and it's too hot to sit out and wait. But, I've used the Vet a lot on the critters, and it is absolutely a squirrel killing machine. And being almost silent is an additional advantage, since I live in town with close neighbors. The factory moderator is really pretty good, but I use an additional silencer.

I have a .25 Shorty and .25 Long.

Nothing but praise for these guns. The shorty is hurling .25 JSB Kings at a happy 850 fps. It is crazy accurate with hades, polymags, and Kings. Downsides? only 30 shots per fill. Wish it had the CZ barrel. Tatsu on it.

The long is slinging JSB heavies at about 890 to 900 fps. It is getting a happy 47 shots on the reg. Stupid accurate. Seems to do pretty decently with several .25 slugs, including the hybrids. Wish the barrel wasn't choked. Sumo on it. I still need to do some tune tweaking, n polish the barrel.

The triggers are perfection. Stocks are beautiful. Neither is what I think of as "mouse fart" quiet, but the impact of the pellet is louder than the report. Setting a camera at 50 yrds, the reports can not be heard. Just a nice THWACK. I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting these without a moderator.

Gripes? Ok to be fair:

-Pain in the ass to break down to tune. Rear charging handle is not ideal... bigger air res would be nice. Externally adjustable reg would be killer.

I think nobody here will believe me but after seeing this topic I will say it anyway. I got my Taipan in 2017. Once I got it dialed in, I never touched the scope until I started shooting some slugs out of it this year. The crazy thing is, I never used it for shooting anything under 100yrds. It was always dead on. When I would clean it, after a couple shots it was right back on. Never had a gun like it. Probably never will again. Hats off to that company for getting it right.

Pickzilla, I have a Vet long in 25 and love it, but my experience too is that it isn't "mouse fart" quiet, even with a handful of moderators I've tried. Curious which guns at around the same power level you'd consider that quiet, because that's what I need.
