Trying A Big Head Yong Heng Type Pump

Like this one without external stainless lines.

How do you like it?

How long have you owned it and about how many hours on it?

Any pros or cons compared to the original yong heng design?

Edit: I tried it. Leaked air into the water cooling. Seller is sending a new one and said keep the defective one.

I picked one up on ebay for $224 delivered, shipped from New Jersey USA. I have the standard Yong Heng that I've just replaced the pistons in but I need to open it up again and clean all the valves since it's much slower now. I got the cheap one as a spare since my sons are heavy into pcps now and bring me their tanks to fill.

Warranty says one year but I don't use them other than for parts. I'm not shipping this lump anywhere.

Yes, it does look like a tuxing and it does not have a water separator which is very important to have to keep water and oil out of your guns and tanks. You will need to buy an aftermarket separator to do that now. Sorry to say they cost more than you saved on your deal.

The onboard water separators, found on most but not all Yong Heng compressors, will also help your compressor live a longer and more useful life as you are not pumping all the water and oil through your compressor and causing premature wear and other problems.

The Yong Hengs are easy to retrofit the water separator to in case you get the wrong one and it's not very spendy to do so. Parts are harder to come by for the Tuxing stuff.

It has the water separator in the big head, drain on one side and pressure relief on the other.. I also have an Alpha filter that removes any water and oil. The most water ever drained from my yong heng separator was about four drops. The Alpha filter dumps a bunch of water when humid. I'm pretty sure parts will be interchangeable with yong heng but I haven't confirmed it.

Ebay and Amazon make long links. You can delete the question mark and everything behind it to cut out their tracking.

I get no moisture from the normal yong heng but the Alpha filter catches it all so this pump should not be any different. The alpha filter uses molecular sieve and builds to 2200psi before allowing air to pass into the tank. I've used it over three years and every tank is bone dry. I'll let everyone know how it performs once I get it. I'm thinking it will have better cooling than my yong heng.

I gave the seller a chance but this is how it went...

My message to the seller

The compressor arrived today but has a couple of problems.
1: Temperature gauge does not work.
2: When the compressor starts to build pressure a constant stream of bubbles comes out of the water outlet at the cylinder. So high pressure air is leaking into the cooling water. The same continues as long as air pressure is present so there is a bad seal or gasket at least. This pump will be reviewed at https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/whos-using-the-big-head-yong-heng-type-pump/#post-1131560 Please let me know how we can solve these problems quickly. Thank you for your help.

The seller's only response...

I responded but the seller never did...

If they would send repair parts quickly I would be willing to fix the problem but typical for chinese companies they just ignore the customer once they get your money.

So I can't recommend this compressor or ebay store.

This should be interesting….sending good compressor vibes your way!

It's turning out much better than expected. She just sent me a tracking number and this one ships from NJ as well.

I'm going to pick up some 1 inch square tube in the morning to build a compressor cart with closed loop cooling. I have all the cooling parts left over from my high end gaming computer building days. Everything in my shop to be on casters so I can store it in the tool room when not in use. I'm heavy into welding and fabrication also.

My MIG spray arc on 1/8" wall tubing. Clean and almost silent.

What welder are you using?

Everlast 250P inverter based pulse MIG. It's about 10 years old now and the toughest welder I've ever used. I won it and a 60 amp plasma cutter in a welding contest.

I also have an Everlast 250 amp AC/DC pulse TIG. Here's a pic of an air dryer mount I made from two pieces of 1/4"x3" flat bar. I put the two pieces together with an autogenous TIG weld (no filler) from both sides and then plasma cut it to shape.

These pumps come double boxed but the styrofoam packing really gets shredded in transit so first step in setup is to get the styrofoam bits out of every nook and cranny.

Make sure the head bolts are tight. My replacement had 3 loose head bolts that would've caused the same problem as the first pump if I hadn't caught it.

Second step is to change the one quick coupling that comes with it because it doesn't fit anything I own.

Third step is soaking the pvc cooling hoses in really hot water for a while in an attempt to reduce some of the sharp kinks in it from being folded up by the manufacturer.

Fourth step install the pressure gauge and air bleed screws. It comes with a dead head plug for pressure testing but you have to break a 4mm needle off the knurled end because it wasn't done by the manufacturer after parting on the lathe.

Last step is add oil and pressure test. This pump seems to run cooler than the regular yong heng but I'm just guessing because the temp gauge batteries have been dead out of the box on both units.
