Who’s man enough to admit they own a “Murse”

First a “Murse” stands for Man Purse. And I am man enough to admit I have one.

To me a man purse is a daily bag of any type you use to hall your crap around the later sex uses a traditional purse. So if you have any type of “bag”, single container, portable, can take with you, which can hold more than money cards and ID, you own a Murse.

This one pictured is a Patagonia (imagine that) that I have had since 2014. The “murse” is their compact computer bag for the 13” down, and in their Blackhole Series so super duty and pretty water resistant.

This thing has been used hunting, traveling, shopping, and as well as every day, I love it. Might get something more formal, but I am proud to admit I use a “murse.” Its practical for your day to day kit, regardless of the situation you find yourself in. Maybe not ideal, but it holds my 1.1 L buddy bottle.

You could call this my utility belt…and no I am not Batman.

@backstop Based off my definition, you use a murse :D

p.s. Also, I believe in buying top quality gear for using in multiple ways. One day computer bag, and next day pack all my crap in it, i.e water bottle, umbrella, first aid kit, guide book and explore Prague for the day. (P.s. guidebook is false, I don’t think I have ever used a guidebook while traveling my travel style is a plan without a plan and do herding chickens tourism, which pays off more than not!)

Nope. I only use the backpack when I need it to carry groceries back from the store. Not for personal items.

Otherwise your definition would mean anyone who uses a backpack is using a "murse". I don't buy it.

However, to each their own... (shrug)

@backstop my carries everything, including dead grouse.

All of my personal items still fit in my pants/shirt/jacket pockets or are clipped to my belt. For me, if it doesn't fit there, it doesn't go with me.

I also don't carry a bunch of electronic gadgetry around with me. I only have a flip-phone and that clips to my belt. (chuckle)

To each their own and I understand other folks may have the need for a purse/satchel/brief case/nap sack, etc. However, personally, I would never call it a *murse*.

Just too silly. JMHO

The musette bags and/or messenger bags have a long history of being useful carryalls. I used a 5.11 Rush Delivery Lima for quite a while to haul around my work related stuff when I was working as an educator. It was handy and had plenty of room for my computer, calendar, pens, etc.

It was useful enough that I still take it along with me when perusing gun shows or flea markets.

I would recommend that you get one once that horrid shiny blue thing of yours gives up the ghost.

Lol. Yes each to his own.

For full disclosure I hate stuff in my front pockets if I can help it. I love organization of gear and pockets can’t do that. Knife clipped in Right front pocket, wallet back right etc (yes right hand dominate.

@phillips I’ll probably get sick of that bag before it wears out. I’ve had articles of Patagonia gear for 20 years and it is still going strong, ps and still under warranty

Tried a fanny pack once, that's as close as I came, ;^) but did not care for the bulk. Stopped carrying a wallet about a year ago. I now carry my drivers license, carry license and debit card in my shirt pocket along with my phone and any $ bills I might have on me. Other than that anything else I think I may need occasionally is in the glovebox of my car.

Men were the first to carry a handbag. The 1st Handbag know to man is 5000 years old carried by Otzi the ice age man. Later egyptian men were shown in wall carvings carrying a waist belted bag. Men had " possibles bag " long before women had the little wrist handbag, Men had a war bag. Women were carrying baskets and men had "possibles" bags. It held his kentucky rifle lead ball ammo, mold, some lead, flint, steel, some dry tinder, and anything he thought he might "possibly" need. He also carried a knife and perhaps a tomahawk and his powder horn. Odd though they never called them a man purse. That "possibles" bag carried messages and maps throughout the early wars, hence "messenger bag " Women began carrying handbags. About the size of a marble bag, just about 5" x 6" with 2 looped strings to carry the bag on their wrist. Money for the weekly trip to general store, a handkerchief and what not . I don't know where the suitcase sized "purse " began. These days men are carrying backpack to haul breakdown rifles, ammo, water, and whatever they feel they might "possible" need. I suppose we should call it a "possibles" pack. Murse indeed. Men carried their bags long before women had a need for a bag. And it developed into the pack or backpack to haul more than the "possibles bag" to enable him to go to war. The GI was issued a Pack, it held rations, shelter half, mess kit, stove. rain poncho and whatever he felt he might possibly need. Murse, a word invented by someone who need to study the history of the fighting man. Purse comes from a latin word burse or bursa, one of early uses was carrying documents and messages. It was made of 2 stiff pieces of leather or thin wood hinged at the bottom and 2 clothe triangles allowed it to open and close to carry Roman documents, like an upside down pup tent. Bursa or burse became purse. So men 1st used the hand bag to survive the elements and wage war. When men took up the pack, money, pictures, licenses all small paper went into the wallet. When the need for a war bag and possibles bag disappeared and women's burses ( purses) got bigger and bigger.. And it became more masculine to use a wallet and leave the purse to the ladies and everything from diapers to makeup, and whatever they felt they could "possible" need. Otzi the iceman was a smart guy.
