Whole lead backstop

Hello,

I received a lead brick from one range officer for free when I mentioned I am planning to make one.

I wanted to use one as bullet and pellet backstop.

I have now shot it with my .25 Wildcat with 25 grainers and with PCP .17 pistol from the distance of approx. 25 meters.

Below you see the .25m grouping (free hand) and two .17 pistol hits on the left side.

No lead spray found on the ground. The target cardboard had very slight spray on it.

This is probably thick enough for my 22LR and ..maybe even 17HMR? It will be interesting to see the splash for sure

This is the side view so you can see the craters better.

It looks to perform magnificently..Catching nearly 99% of lead (minimal spray). It has some splashy sound to it but no ping to it, certainly. It sounds like hammer hitting a nail on wet wood maybe?

I added a video of my relative testing the Wildcat.

Only negative side to it is the weight. It takes some lifting to get it in place. I was worried if my car floor will hold under the weight..

made my first silent pellet trap a month back, got the idea from other pages and it works perfect.

Home depot sells rubber mulch used for playgrounds and such.

.8 cubic foot bag for about 7 dollars.

Then go to the paint department and ask for a free empty 4 gallon paint box.

when the box gets too damaged well........ you get the picture.

35gr .22 JSB at 900FPS never comes close to half way through.

I bought a handful of the GB Duct Seal today and put 200 rounds into it. I left the plastic bag covering on it (hoping it will collect less dust). All shooting was inside my 10 yard garage "range."

My Daisy 408 pistol barely dented the surface after going through an empty Coke can. During first 30 or so shots it would pass through the can and penetrate just enough to stick in place. The last 40 rounds would stick fine if they didn't go through the can first. I was shooting 7.5gr wad cutters.

My Ruger 10/22 penetrated quite well. The pellets were completely into the stuff with the tail about 4-5mm down in there. In this gun I was shooting H&N Sniper Magnums (14.97gr) and Crosman 10.5gr Premier Domed (the 1250 bulk buy).

Tomorrow I'm going back and cleaning out the rest of the stock at Home Depot so I can cover the entire surface of my backstop with it.

Thanks again for an excellent idea!

Andy

400 pounds, think of the possibilities!

Since my (literally) groundbreaking backstop is not at my home range, I think I am going to melt lead in jsb 6.35mm pellet tin. It will be plenty large for offhand training but does not cover the back of all the targets on air rifle 10m paper that I use for prone shooting.

I think I could melt those "pellet tin bricks" together also.
