The M1 Grand was a pretty powerful .30.

Since it is posted in PCP airguns and this is an airgun forum, I think the OP meant PCP airguns. 
I would guess a PCP originating from Korea or Turkey for starters.
Possibly even something special made by WAR.
There were others domestically which seem to have came and went.
If it were me asking the question, I would add accuracy to the question as well.

I have a WAR flex in .30 cal fully regulated and gets 21 shots per fill shooting the 50.1grain jsb at 950fps making 100fpe. Magazine fed!

American air arms slayer (2511blessed) from what I'm told is a .308 and makes 225 fpe with 120 grain slug. But don't quote me...

I like that one, it's got the power but I wonder why no one pushes velocity with slugs? Seems like everyone's trying to hit 950 fps.

308 cal is a slug shooter exclusively. I thought the OP meant pellet shooters. The Hercules will shoot both pellets and slugs.

Either one, but my main interest is lighter slugs to get the flattest trajectory in the intended range. I'd rather shoot a 60 grain at 1250 and dump all the energy into the target rather than a 100 grain at 950 that will go straight through most lighter game.

What is your regulator set at and is your hammer spring stock? Mine is set at 14 bars and it shoots 45gr JSB's at about 865fps. Thanx in advance. Regards, Tom

Are you looking for hunting or target shooting or both? I do see .30 different than .308. The .308 clearing puts rifle in the cast/swage bullet class.

I am currently leaning hard towards a .257 for shooting cast bullets for long range (200 yards) target shooting. Pushing 70-85 grain bullets in the sub transonic region. It would make for a good varmit hunter, but my focus is traget shooting, I figure take catre of the target take care of the varmit...vice verse.

I don't know about air rifles as I am not a big bore shooter....however I have talked pistols with a lot of guys and most say with lead projectiles if you push the velocity over the 1000 fps range lead will strip off in the rifling and lead up the barrel fast
