Which way do the scope rings mount?

I have some early 1980’s, 1” scope rings that were made in Germany. One of the rings has windage adjustment built into its’ base.

the windage adjustable ring was mounted at the front of the scope of the airgun when I purchased it from the original owner. Okay.

I googled which position the windage adjustable Ring should be in, and came up with an article that states the acceptable norm is at the rear of the scope. Okay

I have a ONE piece adjustable mount on my TX200mk3 from SportsMatch. The adjusting guide instructs to correct the windage by adjusting the front set screws (there are the same pair of set screws at the rear).

so which position for the adjustable ring is correct when I reinstall the scope, or does it matter?

thank you kindly

I’m familiar with leupold one piece bases and how they work and of course you would adjust the rear(have no choice).
If both front and rear rings can move laterally then in actuality you have to consider that both will affect the windage as you adjust and tighten them.
Or is there something that I am misunderstanding? I’m thinking about how weaver style rings and bases work

I’ve of late been using picatinny bases and one piece ring/mounts usually with 20 MOA built in. This seems to provide both good alignment right off and an extremely stable attachment . Two other advantages no possible torque on the scope tube and if you swap scopes around like I do it makes it much easier.

I don’t think you are missing anything BB

i was just seeking others’ opinion as to where the single, windage adjustable ring should be placed.

I was making the comparison that:

a) I purchased the airgun with scope and the ring with windage adjustment was in the FRONT (I wondered if this was correct as it just seemed out of place)

b) I googled the question and received an optics Q&A website where the question was answered specifically by optics professionals and it was stated that the windage adjustable ring was to be mounted in the REAR.

c) I have a one piece SportsMatch mountain which the instructions state to adjust the FRONT set screws for setting the windage (there are set screws front and rear I might add)

so when I remount the scope soon I will put the adjustable ring in the rear, more than likely. I have an inner feeling that it doesn’t really matter whether the windage adjustable ring is front or rear since the lateral movement is so minuscule in order to get the point of impact in sync with the optically centered scope.
