Which superior liner for. 22 Impact

Patrick,

I'm looking forward to your comparison as well. On a side note - a couple weeks ago I reached out to Patriot Outdoors (the SA guys) and asked which 0.22 superior liner would be best with their new Javelin slugs. So far no response.

I've read some other threads here on AGN that suggest the superior heavy liner is only needed for really heavy slugs (i.e 30 grain and up).

I love your reviews and you have nice collection of rifles.

With my pellet liner i shoot three 5 shoots groups at 100 m. 2 were just under and one just over 1" with .216 Knockouts. But after around few dozent shoots accuracy goes away.Barrel was very dirty.I had to clean it with brush and many patches.

I would like to have that kind of accuracy with more shoots between cleaning.

Thanks

Marko

My 700mm SSTX also liked the NSA 23 as well as the 27.5 also in .217 (not so much in the .218) The sample pack from NSA also has the 28.5.

I received the SSTX Heavy as part of a Wildcat MKIII .30 purchase. I will move the .22 Superior liners between the Wildcat and Impact as part of the comparison. I will be at a friends late next week having access to 250yds to play with.

I will keep you posted.

Don’t think you can go too far wrong with any SSTX Liner from an Impact. Pretty good liners for both pellets or slugs. The difference mainly between the standard and the heavy is twist rate (heavy liner has a faster TW). I think, and I have been wrong before.. If you’re shooting mostly slugs the heavy liner may be the choice. If you’re going to be using pellets and slugs maybe the standard. Also, at least for me, I rarely have to clean my barrel.

Have you polished your liner and do you lube your knockouts?

Subscribed to this thread :)

Planning on trying the JSB KnockOuts in my 700 mm standard slug barrel next spring when warm weather returns to Canada. Hope that Monster RD and KnockOuts work out - think that 25 grain will be a decent compromise between fpe and shot count and with any luck might be similar in tune.

Appreciate you guys sharing your experience!

Marko, try cleaning the barrel and then shooting three dozen slugs that you have wet with pure silicone oil. It should keep the bore shiny and clean, with consistent accuracy. I squirt a good amount of that oil on the foam in the pellet tin and just roll them around for a bit and load them strait into the gun or into a magazine wet. I shoot thousands of rounds without the barrel getting lead fouled this way. Once in a while I will pull a couple of patches through with a string, but it isn't out of need, just curiosity on how many pulls it takes to be lead free.

Try the WD40 silicone spray. Spread ammo on a terry cloth towel and spray, roll around a bit and this cleans the ammo and lubes it. I say ammo cuz it works for pellets and slugs. I do not have a lot of experience with slugs but have gotten great results on pellets and some slugs. But even a little better accuracy out of both. That maybe because of cleaner ammo though.

Exactly. I wouldn't think a superior liner would lead up any more or less. Knifemakers superior heavy liner had a very tight choke.

Lube for the slugs is pretty much a must unless frequent cleaning doesn't bother you.

Thanks everyone for replies.

It's amazing to have a place where you can shoot at 250 y.

I have tried lubing slugs with some silicone spray(not wd) but accuracy is worse then with the ones straight out of tin.

Also one thing bothers me. While at 110y or 100 m with stx pellet liner groups were around 1" at 150 m they were over 3".So i thought maybe a different twist rate is needed for longer range stability.

I would be more then happy with the results that you got.I would just rather shoot knockouts because they have better bc then any slugs in this weight. From what i have seen only 30gr+slugs from other manufacturers have better bc.

Maybe i should try that silicone oil when i have time.

Stay safe everyone.
