Which FX or other PCP to get?

Ok super new here!!!

my needs: PCP to remove : woodchucks, fox as primary need, coyote as well but not totally needed could use my 204 rugar for that on occasion...

need to be quiet on the groundhogs and fox with close neighbors...

So I’m trying to decide between FX WILDCAT, impact, bobcat, or even the crown....

im leaning shorter over all easier to manoeuvre and can get wife shooting it too..., need quiet as well.

not sure I need the adjustability..., at first I say don’t need it then feel like soon I’ll want to do idk...

i do like the value in the wildcat 400$ cheaper I think

also struggling between 0.25 or going up to 0.30 if I really want coyote but if people say I need 0.30 for fox too then I’ll need 0.30 as fox is a must !

Ok done ranting any thoughts??

The Wildcat is a great choice. The 25 will do all you are asking and more. Unless your going to become avidly involved in the sport and learn to rebuild the guns, I would suggest shying away from the Impact. They are great guns, but right now I have two Impacts both waiting on parts. My Wildcats just keep shooting trouble free year after year. Also if $ are an issue I might suggest looking at the little Diana Skyhawk. I have been going to pick one up for the kids to use and a shop gun. Good luck. sylvan

In the FX line, I also recommend the Royale 500 or Boss. You don't need the adjustability of the newer platforms, and the older Royale platform is rock solid. I won't say the new stuff is problematic, but having owned a Crown, and now a Royale 400, I can attest to the total reliability of the Royale. Its POI never changes, an important feature for your intended use. The Royale/Boss would have been my recommendation even if not limited to FX. Of the rifles I have owned, only the RAW would be equal in terms of reliability. But, it's pricey, and compared to the Royale, it's a bit of a burden in the field.

you can't really go wrong with those choices, however as someone who's not really looking to tune you might want to go for a platform slightly simpler than the impact.

the thing I want to point out is that people are all interested in shooting their foxes and coyotes, and then are surprised when they have a rodent problem with rats and mice and woodchucks. The foxes and coyotes exist to control the rodent population, if it all possible try to leave them to it.

Just my 2c on that. Oh and I love my Crowns. ;)

I’ll be shooting 85 yards and closer...

the fox unfortunately are getting to thinning due to eating all my chickens and ginnie hens if I do nothing...

thx for responses..., seems like 0.25 might be just fine for my needs...

i was only thinking wildcat due to less $$ and also shorter little easier to manoeuvre...

i was looking at boss too...

hmm lots to think about but yes at end of day I need a grab and shoot pcp so maybe less adjustment better...

the only other thing I left out is I’d rather just own one and not buy one then another etc.., I always rather buy one good and done than two lesser..., so if I really thought long term impact better I’d just go with that but seems like I might still be ok with less adjustment...

I had the same thought about the fox, unless the OP is raising chickens. The smaller predators help keep the rodents in check.

FX Royale 500 or Boss!!! Probably the simplest, most reliable, accurate, trouble free platforms FX has ever made. We who own these (I have both) know the joy of having a PCP that never fails to deliver. I've sold off all my other airguns & have no concerns these two breaking down or getting "out of tune ". Incredibly solid platform. You WON'T be disappointed! Been quite a number of posts on & about these the last few weeks. Check them out.

I think I'm the fourth on this post to recommend the FX 500 or the Boss! I love mine! Picked up both of mine used for less than a grand a piece. I had an FX 400 in walnut stock years ago. I actually prefer these synthetic stocks over the walnut. Only thing you'll need is some FX No Limit rings for your scope!

I was in the exact same position as you are & decided on the Wildcat MK2 in .30. It has the 700mm barrel but runs nearly the entire length of the gun making it seem much shorter. One thing is that it won't fit in the case that comes with it with the moderator installed. I bought a larger cheap case on Amazon so I wouldn't risk changing the point of impact by taking the moderator on and off constantly. I'm sure that the .25 would be very suitable for your purposes too. I bought the .30 because I already have a .25 Armada. However, the rabbit hole has me yearning for a higher quality gun in .25. Maybe later! The gun handles very well & is nicely balanced. I've shot 2 groundhogs so far in the head (32 & 63 yards) & literally neither moved an inch. I purchased it from Ken at SPAW & he tunes the guns before shipping. That saved me the trouble of messing with it. I also opted for the DonnyFL moderator because the FX moderator is just a hollow tube and the Donny was only $49 more. It's pretty quiet for a .30. The test target sent with the gun had very nice groups at 75 yards, both less than an inch around 3/4" CTC. The gun is holding air, the regulator is constant & the groups I've shot at 50 yards verify the accuracy of the test targets sent with the gun. I love it!

Think carefully about what you really need & make the decision. It's very likely that it won't be the last time you go through this process.

Your title says FX or other PCP and you also mentioned that you want something maneuverable. Don't forget about the other fine bullpups such as the Kalibrgun Cricket, Edgun R5M Standard and Long, Edgun Lelya, Taipan Veteran Short, Standard and Long, AT Vulcan, Vulcan Tactic and Vulcan Uragan. As for which one will suit you, that's a whole other topic.

I would agree with Peskadot671. Don't limit yourself to FX . The Crickets, Vulcans, Edguns and Taipans will produce more energy from the factory and most likely be more reliable than some of the newer FX models. FX tends to lead in innovation, but often have more issues (just read through the reviews and make your own judgement) regulators, leaks etc...
