Which DonnyFL and why?

We shoot .30 cal Impact X rifles, and I was wondering which DonnyFL moderator would be best for them. I would love any sound dampening it would provide, but I'm more interested in any improvement to groups as a result of the air stripping that occurs. The SUMO appears really popular, but being .30 cal, is there a better choice for trying to improve accuracy? Curious as to the real world results on accuracy others are seeing in the .30 cal.

I’m I have a few of Donny’s moderators, they all work well in minimizing the sound of the gun firing. The larger the moderator the quieter the gun. If your looking for the quietest solution I would buy the largest one that can fit my rifle without making it look ridiculous. Take some heavyweight paper and make a mock up of the moderator just to see if the size is appropriate for the look you want.

i use the Sumo on my Impact and i also have the FX/Donny’s version i find the Sumo to be a bit more effective.

Good luck in your quest for a quiet impact you really cant go wrong with Donny’s choices. I would order direct from Donny as he is a fast shipper and if see you made a wrong choice you can exchange it for another model as long as you didn’t use it or mess it up.

i have had all models of donnyfl moderators except the emperor v3 you will find the bigger the quieter. since your shooting a 30 cal. there is some "bark" to it. all will work to different degrees. the sumo will be least effective , the emperor will be most effective. however , the DB difference will be about 8-10 db , and the length and width are also significant. profile look may figure as important. overall , IMHO your desire would be best served by either the "ronin" or the "shogun". the shogun is an 8" long version of the sumo , and the ronin is a shorter 6" version of the emperor. this gives you either a slimmer profile mod , or the ronin with a bigger diameter but shorter length mod.

i am unaware of how the grouping accuracy would be affected by any of these mods.

Brian... did you see any affect on accuracy or group size?

Why would an LDC improve accuracy? It is not their purpose, I supposed if your accuracy improved by using it would be good. But I’ve haven’t heard they improve accuracy.

Correct. It is not the primary objective of a sound moderator to increase accuracy. Obviously, the primary purpose is to reduce sound, which they do. However, I have seen posts stating group size decreased after installing some models of LDC. I know I remember a post about a DFL SUMO doing this, but can't find it. I also believe it was in .25 cal, but I can't stake my life on it. I've seen multiple online claims that a well made and fitted moderator/suppressor can increase accuracy due to the ability of some designs to perform an "air stripping" function where the turbulent air behind the pellet is eliminated before it leaves the moderator and begins it's flight path from the moderator. I'm sure this varies by design and manufacturer, and some models may affect accuracy, and some may not. I was just looking for anyone who may have real-world experience with a DonnyFL LDC on a .30 cal FX Impact X and whether they say any improvement in accuracy.

Chuck,I can attest to the fact that my Daystate AirWolf's groups, while not .30 cal, did improve with the Sumo attached. All guns are different as you know. The only suggestion I have is if you are around other air gunners, maybe they can assist you in your quest. Additionally, if you are near one of our well-known retailers, maybe they will allow you to take one or two of the models for a test drive.
