Which cheap compressor

GX CS2 off of Amazon with a 4 year warranty, I think it came to around $440, only needed to fill pcp’s directly, not for filling scba tanks, working great so far.

Those are interesting and seem to work well for many. Not under $400 and not able to top off tanks, however. Yong Heng is under $400 (at last check) and can top off large tanks. Depends on what one needs.

YH needs oil and water, water tank and water pump. YH is very loud.

GX CS2 and CS3 are quiet(er) and don't need messy liquids.

I have both and I use both interchangeably.

I've considered getting the smaller GX to keep in the vehicle. Are the GX compressors a lot quieter than the YH? I leave my YH set up in my shop so the water and tank aren't an issue for me but I can see the attraction to the GX. I always liked the speed of topping off a tank with the YH for such a small compressor. Options are good.

Disregard the question-I see you noted that the GX compressors are "quieter". And their portability is certainly nice.

not a lot of choices under $400. The GX CS2 is air cooled oil-less compressor that can run on a 12 volt car battery. But, the amazon page says normally for under 2 liter. Mostly, it fills guns, not larger bottles.

The Yong Heng can run longer and fill bottles, but requires oil and water.

I think it depends on what you are doing. I fill bottles, so Yong Heng for me. If you only want to fill small stuff like air tanks on guns, the GX CS2 will work fine. That's my thoughts.

My buddy has an ebay 12V 4500psi pump, basically an unbranded hatsan spark or air venturi nomad. He paid $300 even for it I believe, and i have to say the little thing is nice. Its quiet, its portable as all can be (about the size of a normal old school 12V battery charger), and it fills our guns in just a couple minutes. I honestly dont see why you couldnt top off a big tank with it, you'll just have to only use it for its max run time which I think is 15 minutes then shut it off and let everything cool before starting again. Probably take a couple days of free time to do it, but its no different than filling a big bottle gun.. basically just filling 15 guns worth.

I have a bottle and am looking at getting a yong heng probably next year, because my bottle is going to be out of date here in 3 years and I'll need to fill it at home for at least a couple more before I get a new bottle.

Yong heng works, but. . . . . .

Mine's been a love hate relationship. I hope the hate is leaving now though.

Had it about 9 months when the piston disintegrated. Good design though, the part the broke was the very top of the high pressure piston, which just screws out. Unfortunately, took two months for parts to come in from China. Then, the oil seal shrunk while the thing was apart. Had to order a new seal. Took two months. Then, other things came up, so it sat for a while. Finally started using it last night. Dowdy seal blew in the top. Replaced it with a small oring that I hope will hold till I can figure out what size seal to buy. Oh, and on third pressure gauge. Hope this one lasts.

Would I buy one again, yes, probably. Do expect some down time for repairs. I ordered extra parts each time for the next problem. The problem is that there really isn't a sub $500 option other than this design. Since I can buy 4 or 5 for what a better compressor costs, I'll just buy another if I need and keep this one for parts and still be ahead a few hundred.
