Where do you guys sight in your guns hft

This is a picture I have on my scope cover of my Aztek for hold overs. This is for Scope that sits 1.9 inches above barrel and AA 10.3 grain pellet shooting 900 FPS.

As far as sign in, I do it at home in the back yard.

FT in the US is 10-55y, you'll have plenty of reticle at 16x in the scope for the all 55y.

Personally, I zero just below the apex of the pellet. So at 18fpe, I have 2 zeros that fall around 19/20y and again at 30 and less than a reticle marking 'hold under" in between.

For the sake of clarity....HFT is a completely different game than shooting in hunter division FT competitions under AAFTA rules.


Which one are you referring to?

Zero needs to be apex of pellet flight ( generally 26-30 yards ) SET scope to 16X, adjust your ocular focus and note where it is ( Even mark it with a paint dot )

Sadly AZTEC scopes are MOA and while having a reticle that gives holds points ... how they get used you need to establish.

Chairgun does not support MOA for doing DOPE cards sadly. So you need to do this manually.



Go out with a few larg sheets of paper / cardboard with @ 6" apart horizontal lines drawn across it. Get scope zeroed first on another target.

Then you start shooting from one side of Line to the other holding cross hair ON THE LINE as you move target distance 10 to 55 yards. write down what the DROP IS at each distance. ( as in 10 to @22 yards in 1 yards steps. 23 to @35 in 2 yard steps and from there out to 55 in @ 5 yard steps.



WHAT THE PELLET DROP IS as you note and measure using the scopes reticle scaling .. in inverted and becomes the HOLD OVER VALUE inside and outside the Zero range.



Takes a bit of time .. but in this way you have ACTUAL trajectory data your gun is actually doing !

Too late but the Emerald comes in SFP and FFP so if the scope is SFP the moa will not be correct on 16x. 

I'd definitely do 10-20Y in 1 yard increments and you'll see that from 10 to 11Y there is a larger difference than 11-12Y and so on. If you are short on time you can do 25-55Y in 5 yard increments though from 50-55Y the pellet drops more.

I have read a couple of posts in the thread about MOA not being correct or Chairgun not working with MOA.

For SFP scopes, stadia spacing can be either MOA or milliradian, at ONLY ONE magnification setting. It does not matter if the MOA or milliradian reticle is "correct", as long as you know what that spacing is. I usually measure mine, but Chairgun can do it for you if you want to assume that the manufacturer labeled things correctly.

Chairgun defaults to 3.438 MOA per stadia, which is correct for milliradians, but you can configure it to show whatever spacing that you desire. Say that you have an SFP scope with an MOA reticle, that reads MOA at 18x. But you want to use it at 16x.

1) Go into Chairgun and enter 16.0 in the "Scope mag" box.

2) Go to the "Toolbox" pull-down menu and select "Generic Mil-Dot Calibration". In the "Full Mill-Dots" box, enter 1.0

3) In the "Magnification" box, enter 18.0 because that is the magnification where each marks read 1.0 MOA (according to the manufacturer, but best to verify).

4) In the "Range" box, enter 100, because that is the distances where I know the spacing of a true MOA.

5) In the "Vertical Difference" box, enter 1.047, because that is what an MOA should be at 100yds.

You just told Chairgun that you are using an SFP scope that has true MOA at 18x, but you want dope to be correct for 16x. The result is that Chairgun will now give you the correct dope for your scope when using it at 16x.





Note: I used to use Chairgun and it works well enough, if you use it correctly, but I now use a custom spreadsheet to generate my dope.

Scotchmo, quick question. I only have chairgun on my phone and it has a totally different look as to being on a PC. So the information you provided above, can you suggest how to do it with android please.
