When it’s too hot to shoot.

A wallaby having an afternoon siesta in 38 degrees in front of my 30 meter range. Lucky for him I didn’t move him along as it was too hot. Tomorrow Is predicted to be hotter.

It has snowed here already. I don't know what is worse, shooting in freezing temperatures or in the extreme heat.

The local firearms range has deer who are oblivious to the sound of gunfire and ricochet. They are always wandering around the mowed portion of the silhouette range feeding within 50 yards of me shooting and checking targets.

Dag nab it. It’s been bloody hot for the last couple of weeks and my plinking has taken a back seat to living in air conditioning, watching movies and drinking cold beers. Today and today only it’s forecast to get to a very comfortable 29 degrees before the heat returns and wouldn’t you know it it’s blowing 25 to 30 knots. 😡😡 Oh well back to watching the DVD’s.

Kia ora Richardo, yes although we live in the bush and the land is dry as a bone we have been fortunate enough that nothing has started very near us. My wife and I have got our fire plan organised and we have cut the dry grass very short for about 5 acres around our house and shed.

The nearist fires are at Kilkivan and Woodgate beach and from today’s reports there are near to 100 burning throughout the state. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all those who have been affected. It only takes one irresponsible person flicking a burning cigarette butt out their window and all hell will break loose.

On a lighter note our youngest son and his family are hollidaying in the land of the long white cloud next march. I tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn’t listen.🤣 Must be getting his stubbornness from his Kiwi granddad.

Yeah, the forecast temperatures this week are 37, 35, 37, 39, 40, 38 Celsius. The dam that we use to water the gardens is looking more like a big crater then a dam. This is the longest drought I’ve been in.

I bought a cheap rimfire Niko Sterling Mount Master 3*9*40 for my Benjamin Trail. It has a ZR mount on it so I thought I’d try a little experiment to see if it will last. If any of my rifles will kill a scope this one will. So far so good, I have been shooting it very, very early in the morning and in the twilight hours to get away from the heat and it’s still holding zero. The scope is actually doing better then some of my Airmax’s at holding zero. See how it goes.

Wouldn’t you just know it. Been dry as a bone here for a long time and bloody hot, damn drought. But In the last five days we have had 115 mils and the grass is starting to green up and there is about one foot of water in the dam, it just soaked in. No water in our creek either as the land is soaking it all up.

It has still been too hot and muggy and now wet to shoot and in the last few days it’s been 40 and 41 deg Celsius. Can’t shoot in the shed as I would cook in five minutes. So last night the weather forecast for today was 33 deg and 50% chance of 2 mils. Perfect so this morning put out my targets and animals (lots of them) as I’m well overdue for an extended plink. And then it happened, rain again glorious bloody rain. Hasn’t stopped in the last 2 hours. Don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
