When I heard there were 300+ people in line for the “New” Daystate compact RW...

I was feeling pretty sheepish. Especially since my 22 red wolf that I specifically bought to compete in 100 yard extreme benchrest, just is not cutting it. It shoots slugs out of this world. And I love it. But for shooting 22 caliber pellets at 100 yards in benchrest competition, it sucks. Even if I do miraculously get a good batch of pellets, it still drops a couple shots every card. I believe I am one of many who got on the 22 bandwagon this spring and summer. Thank God it shoot slugs out of this world. It would be my first go to gun for long range varminting.

Since I just bought a brand new high power red wolf six months ago. I didn’t want to buy another one. I would’ve ordered a bull pup if it wasn’t an unbelievably long wait.

then I saw an add for a high power special edition pulsar in 30 CAL. Disadvantages, small tank 380 mL. Not enough power. It’s a two year old rifle with an old board. It’s a bull pup, but the trigger is still good because it’s electronic with no linkage. It actually almost has a Woodstock. That’s what sold me.

after waiting for FedEx Ground two days in a row all day - worse than the cable guy, it finally came Friday night 5 o’clock. I figured out how to get the shroud off (I hate shrouds, waste of money accuracy killers). And put one of my old wolverine barrels that loves the 45 grain pellets. Pulled the Heli board from my 22 red Wolf, and installed it today. It is barking much louder, hopefully I will get some readings tomorrow.

It was crazy windy all day. Right at dusk I was able to shoot a couple groups in the side of a snowbank at 100 yards. They looked really good.

I think I’ve got about two more weeks to shoot my card. We will see. It is a bit of a Frankenstein right now, but I need to shoot my card and then I will clean it up.

I really like it.

I would agree it bounces around more than the red wolf. I think it’s a lot lighter. It will be interesting to see what it actually cronies at tomorrow, it feels like it’s shooting a lot hotter with the Heli board, but impressions are one thing, reality is sometimes another.

Thanks for the comments. I am definitely enjoying the experiment.

It is the first bull pup I’ve ever been excited about.

That barrel looks kinda short for 23" assuming it's a HP and not the standard power 17".

OH!!! NICE SCOPE BTW!!!

Two 5 shot groups and one 10

Thanks for the replies. I put the big March on top to try to mitigate recoil. It didn’t work. Or I should say it wasn’t enough. With the Heli board it was shooting about 880, which would be about perfect. Except the recoil is so pronounced that I had trouble shooting small groups. The same thing happened with my original wolverine 10 years ago. It was shooting 970 from the factory, and when I turned it down to 930 I was grouping much better. It wasn’t that the pellets were shooting better, I could just control the rifle.

so I went back to the factory board, and was able to shoot some groups today. It took me a while to figure out the right hold. For about 15 minutes I got in a groove and shot some good groups. These three were the best. The one group Is well under MOA. It was such a thrill when that fifth shot went into that bug hole, made my day.

I am quite happy with this rig, the raccoons 🦝 are not
