Whats your fav budget gas piston Rifle ?

I have 2 Benjamin Steel Eagle's, one in .17 and a .22. I have a couple of Bushnell 4-12X ("always use it on 12X") scopes on them and since they are my only gas piston rifles, I guess I have to say they are my favorites. Compared to my Beeman R1 and R7 springers, they are pretty close in handling and accuracy. The HW/Beeman triggers are rather nice, but I installed a CTD trigger on the Benji's and it is pretty good. Aluminum cans at 50 yards are hardly a challenge.(Editor's note: NO full beer cans were harmed in the production of this post!) They're light, easy to cock and fun to shoot and power is very good. What's not to like. 

Until recently I had two Titans, one in 177 and the other in 22 cal. I traded the 177 for a new Hw30. The rifles cost me each $460.00 Aus 5 years ago. Both very accurate and my first choice when pesting or hunting rabbits or hares. The 177 caused me all types of grief over accuracy, dam well nearly replaced all moving bits. When it killed its last scope I estimated that scopes for this rifle had cost me nearly three times the cost of it so I traded it.

I removed the original gas ram from the 22 cal and replaced it with a Gamo ram, much easier to cock, smoother shot cycle and a bit quieter. Did the trigger fix, replaced seals, jam springs, pivot washers over the years. Wonderfull rifle nearly as accurate as my Hw77 but more powerful. Last time I cronied it with the Gamo ram she was spitting out H&N FTT ‘s around 700 fps.

Its the only gas ram I have now but each time I look forward to its turn out of the safe. Here is a video of it shooting coke cans filled with water out to 80 metres.

Hatsan vortex edge .25 caliber

the only gas piton rifle i have is a benjamin trail np2. it was over $200 so not really a budget rifle. to me anyway. i couldn't hit anything with it when i first bought it. now that i know how it likes to be handled, it's very accurate. this year i shot a squirrel from 57 yards. ok, that was luck. i guessed at the hold over and there aren't any mildots in the scope.

I too have a Hatsan Vortex Edge in .25 that I scored on sale for $80. Nice shooter for the price but I'm still not a fan of skelotonized stocks..

Another budget gun that really surprised me was a Benji Prowler in .22 that I got from WallyWorld for $90. It is hands down one of my fav break barrels to hang out and plink with in the back yard. I've been keeping my eyes open for a .177 at a cheap price just because I enjoy shooting this gun a lot.

I have a Benji Titan in .177 that is nice but I've never been able to get consistent groups with so it generally sits in the rack...

If you're willing to fork out a few more bucks the Hatsan 87 QE is a sweet piece of equipment. I have it in both .22 & .25 and absolutely love them but you're looking at twice the price...

I wanted this particular model because it had a little more of a traditional look to it rather than it's NP2 Trail sibling. I also find it more accurate and so far much more reliable than the Crosman F4 .177 that I bought last year from Wally-world.

Sweet rifle for a great price. Bought mine for $50 new.

I wanted this particular model because it had a little more of a traditional look to it rather than it's NP2 Trail sibling. I also find it more accurate and so far much more reliable than the Crosman F4 .177 that I bought last year from Wally-world.

I have a Crosman Summit Ranger in 22. Really like it. Light, handles nice, accurate, not really pellet picky. Paid $68 shipped.

My vote goes to the Benjamin Summit NP2 as well. Again although not a budget rifle to some, it certainly is one of the most accurate, quiet and hard hitting air rifles. It's worth every dollar I spent on it. Also it's certainly my favorite firearm to shoot when target shooting.

Umarex Ruger Airhawk Elite II. $107 wally world. Takes a while for newb to get dialed in.

Crosman Summit Ranger .22. Open sights, sling attachments, no BS hunter.

I don't know if $300 is "budget", but I really enjoy shooting the Gamo Swarm gen2 magnum .22.



My 2nd favorite (~$150 new) break-barrel (have owned only a few, maybe six or eight in my life) is another Gamo, the Silent Cat in .177.
(as you can see, I like to put some color on mine. )





And finally, bottom of the list, but the cheapest good shooter I've had is a Varmint in .177. $80 new.





And finally, the one break-barrel I just hated, the Umarex Forge ($150). What a piece of poorly-made junk.

My Crosman exclusive f4 classic np has been lights out. $83 at Wally World. Ditched the scope that came with it in favor of a bushnell 4x32. Shoots sub nickel sized groups at 30 yards using Crosman 7.9 gr Hollow Points. Going to use to squirrel hunt since rim fire cartridges are scarce and expensive. 

That's 35 squirrel-heads in a row. For a sub-$150 break-barrel (gamo silent cat), not bad.





And yes, mounted bi-pods work fine on a break-barrel. Don't let the urban legend of otherwise talk you out it if you don't want to carry around another piece of equipment.
