What’s this Impact plenum

The first time I that I saw a photo of a larger inline plenum on an Impact was around Thanksgiving of last year, but that is not to say that others hadn't done so prior, and I can only imagine when FX's R&D tested them first. FX increased the plenum volume with the MKII to 25cc's, clearly they know that larger plenums translate to more power, but most of their customers shoot smaller bore pellets, where a giant plenum isn't required whatsoever.

With that said, I have a hard time believing that FX needed anyone else's ideas from the Impact power tuning / FPE thread that @edosan started on this forum for product development.

I also agree with @AirSupply regarding the predictions, a larger reg and the other redesign aspects are inevitable to me. I also believe that FX isn't going to just release the .35 or whatever the next generation big bore Impact will be called, but that test cycle has huge requirements around safety, so I can guess that they need to nail those down before they bring it to market.

Like others have said before, the current MKII generation isn't designed to be a big bore / 200+ FPE platform, so I'd think the .35 will be different than the small bore model.

Like FX didn't need any help with the new magazine design or double bottle mount. Once you start manufacturing airguns you instantly acquire all knowledge and no one else will ever have the ability to think of something before you. Must be a super power 😏

I'm not saying it's my design, someone else could have the same thought. I am saying that I posted a cad drawing of it here that was my design on May 25th in the impact mods thread before anyone else posted a picture, link or even mentioned the design. Now people saw it years ago but they were all keeping it secret. In the mean time FX retooled for part that gave little performance increase while sitting on a much better design. It all makes sense now.

The only thing that matters is that we have more choices now in setting up the gun for what we want. Everyone wins.

My only problem are hard accusations without proof (saying is probably an fx knock off for me is pretty rude ), no matter if is a person or a company. Beside that, all good! (I really do not care who came with the idea first, I do not use that plenum and still I can do 150fpe 😉😛 with a copycat I made with Ernest idea...an edosan knockoff! 🤣).

Anyway, is a Plenum or a plenum cover?

I am struggling with this thread. Who designed what and when?

Nothing being done to the impact to gain power has not been done on other guns before .Bigger TP on valves, heavier hammer weight, double bottles, elongated transfer ports or multiple ports in the barrel, reg extension, valve extension, external air pots (plenums) have be fitted to pcp for years, long before the impact was ever thought of. Off set tubes have been used on moderators for almost as long, I would be surprised if the off set plenum on the impact had not been made by at least one or two garden shed tuners.

As for the modest increase in plenum size from the mk1 to the mk2, as has already been mentioned, the vast majority of impacts are not set up to run at higher power, most will be using pellets not slugs, most will be .22 or .25 so a huge plenum are simply not needed

More power may not be needed but you know human nature. I think their flagship should have maximum tunability built in. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I don't consider the word knockoff to be offensive when referring to a legal copy, like the sideshot magazines. Every version after the original is a knockoff to me. There's nothing wrong with using open source design. I'm grateful to Mr Rowe for sharing his external plenum design for us to knockoff. I'm almost at my final version of it on the lathe.

Let us not forget where we would be as a society of we had not improved upon the ideas of the bow and arrow, the wheel, electricity, industry, etc... I too am working on a new plenum of sorts that will improve upon air volume and the Impact's platform as well, and once brought to market I applaud those who can make it better.

Thank you.

Folowing what is going on around Impact tuning and who done what, who done it first or not ... at the end due this kind of things we are all able to go our way in tuning gun as Impact.

To be honest, first time I so somthing with offcenter plenum was what heavy-impact presented. I had a bad luck with Poland plenum, probably first designs and I damaged my gun badly bending rail etc...

In the same time I done work on making my own plenums ... internal and external. Internal I made with 25.8mm ( center not offcenter) was a max dia I cud fit in but was not good as external plenum that was first presented by ER.

So, I redesign existing idea of external plenum by my opinion making it better with some improvements regarding inside radius in corners and expeeimentig with volume.

Thanks to a local company that I was one of owners doing aviation parts, I was able to test external plenums for safety and come up with final designs in couple of months.

At the end, all people involved especialy in edosan post for more fpe have their place in bringing up the knowladge to the public and without them all of this will not be here where it is now and I would say Thank you all for it.

Steve Jobs once says: "ideas are worth nothing unless executed" 🔥 ;)

That was a fool's statement because ideas can be built upon before execution. One idea can spark another and many ideas have been sold for someone else to execute.

👍😂, guess you are missing the point.

nice quotes, still you are lost! jaja keep them coming at least are fun to read. here is an idea, write a quote book! 😂

I want to thank both Heavy and Edosan for all the show and tell improvements created for the Impact. I don't own the Impact and I plan on waiting, possible a very long time, for FX's slug friendly out of the box Impact III. My second option would be to purchase a machine lathe, at this point, not a viable option.

The fact is, aside from the forum information sharing, PCP owners would be ON OUR OWN.

Thanks again

There is an observed phenomenon in nature called the 100th monkey effect. The example that floats around most on this are the monkeys that were being observed on the islands of Koshima and Takasakiyama from 1952 - 1956, where one monkey figured out one day that the dirty sweet potatoes in their staple diet tasted better after being washed off in a stream. After the 100th monkey on the first island adopted this technique, the first monkey on the other island was observed washing its staple sweet potato in a stream, and before the second research group knew it - all of the monkeys in that tribe were also washing their potatoes in a stream.

For at least 20 years, I would buy domain names that seemed potentially valuable or domains that reflected business ideas for new web or tech businesses. I was compulsive about snagging them as soon as the ideas popped in my head, and I'd go as far as securing the .com/net/org's. At peak, I had around 2000 domain names registered with my registrar.

Now why do I mention this? Well, I was laser focussed on tech through the years, having worked as an engineer in the trade with well funded startups and some larger companies. My mind - laser focussed on new ideas and emerging technologies (I get to work in the future in the tech industry vs. a monotonous 9-5). Just when I get some sensational idea that I am SURE hasn't been done before, or attempt to register a new domain name that I'm nearly positive hasn't been registered before - I find that I am just a little bit late securing the digital property for the idea. Many times, by only two weeks - where someone/something registered a new domain name that hadn't been registered at all throughout history. Most stressful was when I had the idea, but wasn't in front of my computer that had the API keys to register the domains, I would forget about it for a couple/few weeks and find out that I could have owned it.

It was disappointing, but it was a common theme - being just a little late to the new idea. I knew better than to pursue some legal recourse with the registrants, I didn't a register a trademark, copyright, nor did I own intellectual property as prior invention. I had no intentions of rubbing it in anyones face that I was first with the idea, but someone I knew told me the story of the 100th monkey, and that helped me make sense of it all. In this world, we're all 🐒 🐒

Any impact with a larger valve seat a little bit of port work and the eccentric plenum from Poland is more than enough for slugs. The power upgrade is well under $200

So many people sell parts now so you have lots of choices.

So true! but some are monkeys and others are apes! something to think about! jajaja

Just having fun guys! :D
