What's in your magazine?

I have seen so many posts on this subject over the years and it seems like everyone has a different answer. My answer is simple...Accuracy trumps all else! If you have two projectiles that shoot extremely accurately, then go with the one with either softer lead or designed specifically for more expansion.

I’ve tried just about everything and find that the design and soft lead used in Varmint Knocker slugs makes them expand explosively, even at lower velocities. I’m lucky in that my Impact loves the 32.8gr. Varmint Knockers and the JSB 33.95 MKII’s equally well with a POI that is almost identical out to 50-60yds. Poly mags are great too, although I don’t have the need to use them much, I know a lot of people do use them.

If what I’m shooting is inside 100yds and there isn’t much wind, I go with the JSB MKII’s. Any farther shots or if wind is blowing pretty good, I go with the Varmint Knockers. I think an accurate shot will put stuff down regardless of expansion if you’re using an adequate caliber for the intended target.

Have a great day! Stoti

I believe in the accuracy trumps everything. So if I'm shooting over 50yds almost always will be using JSB domes. Polymags work incredibly at short distances if your guns shoot them well. But quite expensive so no longer mess with them. When Hades first came out I bought a bunch of tins which are very consistent and shoot great. This is my go to lately. Talking in .22 here as I tried the .177s and weren't accurate in my guns at all. Would I buy them again? Idk if there expansion is much better than the regular domes but they do seem to work great for my close range pesting. But the QC issues I've heard on them since there debut makes me leery.

Cast slugs for my Impact MKII, .25 and .30 caliber. As a backup of commercial pellets, JSB 34gr MKII's for the .25 cal and JSB 44.75gr for the .30 cal.

My Cayden Magazine is loaded with 17.5 gr NSA slugs right now.. Very accurate with these slugs! But the cayden doesn't seem to be to finicky..

My favorite slug is the H&N 23gr .218. I sight in with these @ 825 FPS turn the power adj down 1-1/2 tick marks & I'm sighted in with 14.3gr CPHP @ 935 FPS for plinking/pests. No scope adjustment needed..
