WHAT WOULD YOU DO??

What would you do if you purchased a gun from someone on AGN and accuracy was outrageous poor but you checked double checked then triple checked everything from bolts being loose, scope sight, cleaning the barrel, cleaning weighing and lubing pellets, and so much more? The seller claimed/stated it was in perfect working condition and like new. That it was straight as a arrow and when you get it it’s missing parts, bolts are stripped not shooting accurate and the gun doesn’t perform at all? Please lmk what you guys think.

A lot ultimately depends on the situation. I have bought and sold a lot and I’m sure I’ve gotten a gun that wasn’t exactly as described but never a disaster. Statistically, eventually you’re gonna end up in a not so great transaction. But I’ve never gotten something that has been missing parts or at least to my standards has been so inaccurate as to result in me questioning the seller about what he/she represented. I often have safe queens that simply don’t get shot that much (about to list some in fact) and I don’t have chrons of shot strings - I do discount them significantly to reflect that. So it also depends on what you paid. If you paid top dollar, I’d have a dialogue with the seller and see if he or she will help come to a compromise of some kind. Don’t forget that the seller has no idea what you may have done to the gun after you got it. Bottom line is that sometimes these aren’t easy problems to solve and you just try your best. If the gun is missing parts, the seller should at least compensate you for those.

Darn, the OPs description of the gun he got kinda reminds me of a brand new gun I got from AOA … all except for the missing parts. Took a great deal of testing first one thing and then the other to get it to where it would shoot with any degree of accuracy. Fact is, I got sooooooooooooooooo frustrated that I had to set the gun aside for a couple of months to be able to work on it with any kind of an open mind that it wasn't just a piece of overpriced POS ... and that gun WAS brand new out of the box and cost $2,000. The gun is shooting hole on hole at 65 yards now and will easily hold it's own at over 100 yards.

I am not trying to make light of your situation … Lord knows I have had times when I thought I had been ripped off by dealers and indivisuals … but even with the best of guns it requires both time and patience to get the kind of performance we are all looking for. One more thing you might want to consider is that most people will not trade their best gun unless they are in serious financial straights ... so when you make a trade you should suspect that you are getting something a little less than optimal.

Sellers seem to have all the advantage. Usually, the item must be paid for in full before the item is shipped. So the money is gone and the buyer has virtually no way to get it back. Neither does the buyer have any real recourse if the seller grossly misrepresented the item. The only feeble recourse the buyer has is to leave a nastygram in the feedback section. But crooked sellers simply change their screen names and keep on ripping people off.

Here's another thing that sticks in my craw. I'm, so far at least, only a buyer here on AGN. I've bought guns, scopes, mounts...lots of stuff. And after each purchase, I'm hounded by the seller to leave them positive feedback in the Feedback section. But even after leaving positive feedback for them, nary a single one of them has left positive feedback for me, the buyer, who always pays instantly and fully by PayPal. I've spent over $4000 here on AGN and not a single word of feedback, good or bad, from any of the sellers. And if I were to offer something for sale here on AGN, nobody would find a single positive word in the Feedback section attesting to my honesty and integrity, and I'd have to suffer the same doubt and suspicion as a total stranger.

To the OP, I feel your pain as a buyer. You most likely paid in full BEFORE the item was shipped. The seller got every single penny that he wanted for his gun, in advance. But you got the shaft. You're STUCK. And unless the seller, out of fear of receiving negative feedback from you, decides to make it right, YOU'RE STUCK! Sellers have all the advantage.

Like some of the others posts already say, I'd try and work it out with the seller. However, before I buy, and I've bought a few here on AGN, I ALWAYS ask in writing (e-mail on this forum) some specific questions:

- Is there anything wrong with the gun operationally? Does it shoot as designed, cycle smoothly, magazine(s) work properly? Have you made any modifications to the gun? For higher end guns, have you shot it at 50 yards and what size five shot groups are you getting? How many shots per design fill do you get? If you know, tell me about the ES and SD for a shot string (not always known if no chrony).

- Is there anything wrong cosmetically? Even small things that don't bother you? Send me detailed photos if not posted as part of the ad.

- And lastly, is there anything specifically that you'd want to know if you were buying the gun?

I list these most of these things in the ads for guns I'm selling on AGN (see my post for the Renegade). If not listed, ensure the seller e-mails you with answers to these questions, especially the ones that are important to you.

If you've done this, and when you get the gun its not as advertised or discussed, bring it up with the seller. If you can't get resolution, then spell it out in the Feedback Section so the rest of us don't get ripped off by this person...

Centercut nailed it. TALK, ask questions, or just buy blind.

BeemanR7, " hounded by the seller to leave them positive feedback " that would be a flag to me. I always offer to post IF they want, 8 or 9 out of 10 do not want feedback - there well know already mostly and/or ?- . "just change screen names" well, hard to be a long time airgunner and do that and unknown folks are just that. I glanced at the feed back you left ( all very thoughtful ) and it would NOT mean anything to me period if researching a buyer/seller. NO names and no contact information. BR7 ( and no name/email) and bi9nky dan having done a "deal" just does not mean anything a total waste of time. IF you listed your real name and or email or in your refferences for others at least your info would be there.

It would be GREAT if people HAD to have some identifying marker in the Reference section.

3 day inspection used to be the standard ( along with Postal money orders ) . but even I gave that up just 3 years ago unless I know you. Tis a shame these modern times were in.

OP,

Did you ask how it groups?

Missing parts. Which parts? Where they pictured and or would always be included with rifle? Or ?

If you did handle it just like centercut suggested, did you contact the seller instantly? And then they responded?

I feel people should list any known defect but many seem to think of selling a used car ( but again I would disclose every defect) and the warranty is, you now own it.

Anyone could get taken in one way or another but it seems these days people jump pretty fast on things with little/no research and think (?) it will always work out fine. As someone pointed out even brand new airguns are not always all we want, used is either: all fixed up or the same/worse than when new.

TALK to folks. SO many crazy outstanding good deals on used rigs right now! Spend sometime getting used to the names of sellers it pays off.

This isnt you Hatsan is it?

Cheaters gonna lie and cheat. There is no way around this. They will misrepresent and push merchandise, even in person-to-person interactions.

I am beginning to detect a measure of honesty and integrity among the members of this forum. And that is a good thing. The crooks and bad actors need to be exposed and ostracized.

Keep up the good work communicating, guys.

After reading this, and @spysir and @2manyairgunz posts, I had an idea. It may be a wing nut idea, but maybe we can all do this if you guys think its a good idea.

1. Always post in the Feedback section when you do a deal, either buying or selling. I think we do that already, and I certainly don't ask if the person wants it or not. Just post every time if buying or selling, and list what you bought (don't need to list price)

2. More importantly, and we don't do this now, post ACCURACY after the sale. This makes it very easy to see if the person has done sales deals, and your eye will be drawn immediately to any red negatives. If negative, explain why specifically...

Thoughts?

Mike

I took it completely apart I was missing screws barrel set crews weren’t set properly and found out barrel is crooked/bent so I’m bummed big time. Wish people were honest now days other then selling trash and taking people’s hard earned money for it. Missing cheek piece spring and moderator pieces not put together correctly. Trigger parts look shaved for some reason and 4 out of 8 screws I took off were stripped and missing 4 others. Pics soon to be shown.
