What velocity for slugs?

Greetings,

OK, so you have your new .22 slug liner for your FX rifle. What velocity do you tune for? My understanding was that slugs can go as fast as you can push them, at least below the speed of sound, but I don't think an Impact can push them nearly that fast.

I have my Impact set for max power, since it was last shooting .30 cal, and ran some .22 slugs over the chrono. All are Nielsen slugs, using the 600mm slug liner.

21gr- 934 fps

27gr- 845 fps

28gr boattails- 844 fps

Is it just me, or do those seem kinda slow?

Rusty

Thanks for the confirmation. That was exactly my understanding of it, so I guess I need to look into ways to get more speed out of them. I'd really want to make the 28gr BT slugs work, since they should have the best BC.

My reg was at 141 for the measurements listed, and I took it up to 150 (digital gauge). That's about as high as I dare to go with the stock reg arrangement. I know there's a way to re-stack the springs to get higher pressure, and I saw a note that Huma can supply higher pressure regs on request. I'd have to research higher pressures and see if any other mode is needed other than the reg pressure.

Thanks,

Rusty
