What slugs are you having the best luck with?

Hi, I have finally gotten my Impact .25 MK2/PP upgraded and am starting to get on with slug tuning.

I was wondering what people are having luck with in their Impacts as far as slug weights. I don't care what caliber you shoot, anything someone posts will be helpful to some one, but obviously I'd like to hear from the .25 guys. If you want to list velocities, reg pressure, please do

To my amazement, the Nielsen 29,5 gn are shooting really good right out of the gate before any meaningful tuning. So at 60 m, I'm getting 0.75" groups. Nothing to write home about but I'm sure I can tighten those up. Can't recall the velocity but it's in the high 900's.

Also the 38.5 gn seem to be a close second. going to get a box of each and get to it

I'm at 150 bar on the reg and the 38.5's are flying downrange at about 930 with the valve wide open. I'll start turning the valve in to see if things don't tighten up.

Thanks,

KP

Slightly modified Condor (no barrel flex at all & as much power as any .22 or .25 slug to 55 grains could need) that came to me with 400 NSA flat base hollow point 36 grain. Did excellent.

I ended up with some better no choke barrels in .22 & .25. Griffin RBT .22 28.5 to 31 grain are absolutely amazing way out. I’m talking 225 yards is easy and on point stabilization wise as far as the 350 yards I have tried them to.

I prefer the .22 2 stroke 29 grain RBT for long range target fun. Heavier slugs if I were to expect to hunt or in any wind past 3-5mph if you’re expecting to hold on target and use StrelokPro for holdover adjustments.
My personal experience is I’m very happy with the .22 Griffins for long range fun. NSA high speed are absolutely fine if I wanna just hit something hard at 150.

In fairness I didn’t try the 36 grain NSA at long range. I’m about to get Griffin Hollow RBT round nose .22’s & .25’s. I’ll also get NSA HS press bulk slugs. I have to say Varmint Knockers were great also.

A 205 yard direct downward hit from a 31 grain RBT Griffin from my .22 Condor.

NSA 33.5, 36.2. 38.5gr HP slugs all shoot MOA @ 100 yards in my .25 Impact 700 slug liner as do the 36gr Dimple Nose slugs most of the time. The VK 34gr HP shoot just as well also. I have shot many .5 MOA groups with these slugs at 100 yards and l plink spray paint cans @ 200 yards. Sometimes I hit the cans 3 and 4 times in a row when the wind stays the same for a bit. I shot the 33.5gr at 740 fps with such good accuracy that I did not think to check the chrony for two weeks. The 33.5s shoot well at 920fps too. I am currently shooting the 36.2gr at 980fps and they are deadly at 200 yards. I have a modified MK1 Gen2 gun. Reg is set at 130bar. I have Michal's plenum.

For me, I would rank the "best" slugs that I have shot in a few categories:

Overall best external + terminal ballistics:

  1. 62gr Varmint Knockers are #1
  2. Every NSA from the old 60-66gr, and the newer 61.5-65.5's are a very close #2 (more like #1.5).
  3. 43.5gr NSA - my personal long range airgun shooting record goes to these shooting 12oz cans from 1/4 mile away
Backyard friendlier / general purpose:
    1. 25gr H&N slugs have shot as well as 30+ grain slugs with my Taipan (using FX barrels)
Universally compatible:
      1. FX Hybrids - compatible with everything that I have tested them with
What's the deal — Can only FX Impacts* shoot slugs? —

I didn't think so, either!!

What's the percentage of Impacts to other PCP's? Can't be very high.

➔ SO: Where are the non-Impact slug shooters?!? 🤔

And where are those that shoot slugs at less than trans-sconic speeds?

➔ I thought that slugs can be shot at lesser speeds.... And that the FX Hybrids were specifically made to shoot well in "regular" guns that don't need to be on steroids....

➔ SO: Where are the slug shooters with more "moderate" speeds?!? 🤔

*(I did see that Condor, man, thanks. ✔️)

.25 NSA 29.5 gr @ 895fps, Impact MK2 PP.

I tested those today with my 25 cal 700 mm Slugliner @ 950 and they performed pretty good at 60 yards in very strong wind . Will test at 110 tomorrow.

What settings is your Impact set at? PP or not?

I have the polish power plenum with the old version hammer spring . Pellet probe and barrel mod. Reg at 130 ,hammer opening 16 mm. Wheel At 5 . Valveknoob at 3.5 line.
