What is your favorite caliber

.20 cal being the ideal PELLET GUN caliber. Wickedly accurate and in the weight pellets currently available doable up to @ 35/40 ft lbs.

.177 currently suits all my needs, but having been bitten by the big-bore bug, I recently bought a .20 

.177 (13.4 gr at 25 to 40 yds)

.30 (44.75 gr 45 to 100 yds)

.22 (18.1 gr at 25 to 55 yds)

.25 (25.39 gr at 35 to 75 yds)



I just can't nail it down to one caliber, but I'll give the .177 Monsters and the .30 a tie for first place and the .22 and .25 a tie for second place!

Common sense would tell me to stick with the .177 Monsters getting over 100 shots per fill at 20 fpe with the Thomas, but dang that Dirty Thirty is fun to shoot!

.177 was THE pellet gun caliber in my mind ever since I was a kid so as an adult, I leaned towards the .177 being my favorite. I think it still is however, I do like .22 caliber also especially in a pcp where the pellet velocity can be increased to get more power if needed. Even .22 at 12 fpe is decent power but in a springer at the 12 fpe level, I prefer .177. So, all of that to say that my favorite air rifle caliber is still .177. I definitely see why larger calibers would be desired for hunting and longer distances though. I sure am glad that we have ever increasing choices for airguns in all areas of the sport.

put me down for .20...my favorite for sure;Truth be told though I shot it less than the others.

.177 if I am shooting indoors

.20 if I am shooting my Sheridan pumper outside.

.22 if I am shooting co2, pcp pistols or springer rifles outside to 50+ yards

.25 if I am shooting rifles outside at distances of 100-212yards.

.30 I don't got one yet

.35 if I am shooting my 9mm pistol or carbine.

It's really hard to pin a single caliber down as they are all fun and have their place in plinking, target shooting, pesting or hunting.

.22! I had a .25 at the same time, two great rifles. But I was getting kills that looked the same, but was getting more shots per fill and the wind has never been an issue cuz where I hunt, the ground squirrels don’t come out on windy days. Both go straight through. I have given up fpe I know, but the terminal effectiveness is the same. My range is about 150yards, which is about the range of the .22 diabolo’s lethality at around 850fps with 18’s. Now if they made the Steyr Hunting 5 in .25....

I now several .177, .22, and .25 rifles, spring and pcp. For me, if I could only choose one, it would be in .22. The variety of pellet choices and available power alternatives allow one to tackle any desired objective.

However, I am really glad I don't have to choose just one. They are all fun when utilized within their respective capabilities.

Put me down for the .20 Cal. When jsb came out with the new exact heavys in 15.9 was a game changer. AZ has my rapid mk ll pushing them at 900 fps and scary accurate. +1 on what Motorhead said. Love this gun. Target @ 85 yds.

.22 in a PCP (or multi-pump) for general shooting, pesting and small game hunting (rabbits and squirrels);

.177 for springers and SSPs for 10 meter target, casual target and plinking;

.25 for large pests (groundhogs, raccoons, porcupines and such).

If I had to choose one... considering BC, cost of pellets, selection of pellets, shot count, effective range (up to 40ish yards) and (reasonable) stability in breezy conditions, it would be a .22 caliber PCP. ...Love my Maximus, love my HW100FSB.

Surprised at how many mention the .20 caliber. I always considered it to be Beemans "proprietary caliber" pushed onto the airgun scene for marketing (not technical) reasons. Limited guns; limited pellet selection & availability (when they were introduced) and higher costs. Seen the .20 as a compromise useful in places where there is a FPE limit (like the 12 fpe in Britain) where it would have a bit more umph that the .177 and a bit better trajectory than the .22. I would be interested to hear the technical benefits of the .20 over the more traditional .177 and .22 calibers.

I gotta say my favorite is the .20 cal, my Theoben just always makes me smile. But that might be second place in a while because AZ is converting his own .30 Crown into a super hot .177, then he is going to do mine too. He thinks it’s a great rifle to do it with, said that it’s going to be just under 1100 FPS. And with the heavy pellet, not slugs. So I’m hoping to have a hot super quiet and very accurate custom gun. (he’s going to make my shroud as quiet as possible). It’ll be super cheap to shoot, and it will just click when fired, he showed me a similar setup that he built for a Daystate .177 and it was so ridiculously quiet that I actually didn’t think it went off until the pellet impacted the target. Great post, sorry for being long winded...I like the small caliber stuff best. This is my best group ever. 130 yards with the Theoben .20 cal.

I have a Leshiy with: .177 250mm barrel, .22 250mm barrel, .25 350mm barrel, .30 350mm barrel, and a 350 .257(9mm) barrel, so whichever one I feel like putting on.

.177 for airguns. Firearms for the rest.

Available heavier pellets (and now slugs) have moved .177 performance well into the range that only .22 could provide in the past. I have a few .22's but .177 will always be my favorite air gun caliber.

.177 is my favorite, if I could shoot out to 100 yards in my backyard I would probably prefer a larger caliber. 

.25 is my favorite. 

.22 is everything I need for pesting.
