What is your favorite caliber?

Why?

For me, .177 caliber reigns supreme. I live in a subdivision in a suburban area with neighbors nearby and the small caliber airguns allow me to be more covert when target-shooting.

However...I recently acquired a Taipan Mutant .22 caliber (standard length) and I must tell you, I love this bullpup. Set to propel the JSB 18.1 grain pellets at 900 fps, this gun is super quiet -- Sumo at the muzzle -- and very accurate. I swear this gun is lighter and more consistently accurate than my Taipan Veteran .22 caliber Standard.

For almost all applications it’s .177 hands down. I’m an airgun nut so love them all though, just .177 is my favorite. I have been into airguns far before the PCP thing or when they started marketing to the AR people. I can use a .177 for every application that I require.

Now... I’m also a CF benchrest shooter at heart so... if I ever get into 100 yard benchrest or longer with airguns I’ll look very hard at the .25 cal option.

.22 in my book, since it has two of the most accurate pellets known to man, the 18.1 JSB Exact Heavy and the 25.4 grain JSB RD Monster. I addition to that, you have the NSA 20.2 HP DB slugs, and the JSB 25.4 grain Knock Out slugs. All accurate, all consistent, and all reasonably priced. What more could you want? ;)

.177 all the way. I do have some .22's but are they "needed" for my air gun shooting? Not for me. I culled some bird feeder destroying squirrels today and yesterday using a .177 Walther LGU. No muss, no fuss, quiet, and all that was needed. Modern heavy .177 pellets out of modern high power guns have made the caliber much more versatile than it was in years past, and my family has used the older lower power guns to take many hundreds of squirrels over the years. I no longer hunt but one of the newer guns with heavy pellets would have been deadly as a squirrel rifle in my younger years.

My vote: .25 cal 34gr JSB MK2

Why?

1) One of the best pellet BCs

2) Great accuracy out of my FX Impact at low power setting - 620fps

3) Great accuracy out of my FX Impact at high power setting - 920fps

4) Remains stable and accurate at all distances i can reach out to

5) When lubed with FP10, I have never even cleaned the barrel after 10k rounds
