What is your Backstop made of?

I need something reusable, cheap to make or put together (less than 30 bucks), no real power tools to speak of so it should be simple. should be able to handle .22's and .25 at 25 yards for punching paper and 1 yard for crony testing, would like it to be relatively quiet as well. Right now 30 FPE is good in the future maybe 50 FPE at the muzzle. So Tell me about your backstop and or ideas.
 
I took a paper ream box (so it's 11" X 17") and filled with rubber mulch. It was WAY too heavy so I dumped it out and cut it down to a little more than half height (about 6"-7"). So when I stand it up I can attach two (2) 8 1/2" X 11" printed targets side by side and the 6"-7" of rubber mulch stops a 40 fpe, .25 caliber pellet with no problem.

EDITED TO ADD: Or are you talking about a larger backstop for those rare instances you miss said pellet trap? Sorry if I misread what you were asking.

Ditto...works great for me (Actually, I use a heavy weight cardboard box of a size that would not be too heavy when filled with rubber mulch) When the box is shot up, I just pour the old into the new.

My best one is a Milwakee best beer qty 30 count "carton" or "suitcase" as most peole call them. Nothing more than a carboard container that works well. First remove the beer, back fill the carboard container with rubber mulch and then apply gray tape to close up the box. It will stop a .25 at 40FPE no problem. I just keep adding gray tape as I continue to shoot the fill. I probably have over 1000 rounds in the first one I built. I have a total of 6 of these that I put out at different ranges. I sometimes will put one behind another just in case I stack too many pellets in the same hole at too close of a range. Most of mine are wrapped in gray tape to the point that you can't even see the original carton. As the tape gets holes in it I just add a little more gray 2" tape. Pretty cheap. Oh, drinking the beer is totally optional. If you don't want it just send it my way.

I took 2 kitty litter square plastic pails, cut old phone books to space up the bottom so half a bag of rubber mulch would fill each one, cut cardboard to fit inside the top lip, snapped the cover back on. Built in carry handles and won't roll like a round bucket. Only cost the $7ish for the mulch. Cheaper and lighter to carry than the ductseal trap I use in my basement.

So, add another vote to rubber mulch and a suitable box you have laying around.

Thank you all for you input, I think the empty paper box will work for me, with rubber mulch and maybe a pillow :). I use to use phone books but the more you shoot them up they start to swell and bust out the box or at least bow it out. I will just keep applying duck tape to the front to front of the box lid as i punch holes in it. Maybe cover the outside of the box with a plastic tarp or trash bag so the weather doesn't tear it up.

I have the .22 champion bullet trap but it pings really loud early in the morning. 
I like the bucket idea as well instead of the box, for weather proofing anyway.
I've stopped by home depot but never saw a hunk of wood that was 6" thick and 12"x12" would work for me too.
I stuffed a pair of jeans in a post office box and that has worked for a while but I had a go thur recently so don't know if its time to change the box or get some more jeans.
The rubber ballistic is pricey and it says 600 FPS wadcutter can penetrate it so 900 FPS 18.10 JSB will surely go thru at least one sheet.

Thanks again for all the ideas, feel free to post pictures if you like. Nothing says sexy like a well constructed airgun backstop or 75 yard head shoot on a ground squirrel thru a scope cam................other than a half naked woman doing just a bout anything that is.

I took scrap carpet and cut strips 2 foot by 8 inches until I had a stack about 3 foot tall cut 2 pieces of 2x10 2'6" long then got some all thread and nuts and sandwiched the carpet between the 2x and tightened the nuts down to compress the carpet. Makes a great target because you don't have the noise of the pellet hitting something hard. I was shooting last weekend and a rabbit walked right up to the target that I was shooting at from 60yds away so I guess my Bobcat 22 is quiet.

So I went to the Home Depot today and picked up a 5 gal bucket with lid. @ $7. One bag of rubber mulch,$3.99 I already had the thick rubber mat. But you get the idea, and its dead quiet. The whole bag of mulch fit perfectly in the 5 gal after I tamped it in and stepped on it. Just enough back pressure to hold the mat in place tightly.





All put together
