What is this?

The front dovetail rail on my Air Arms S510 has a post on it. I'll gladly give an accuracy point to anyone who can tell me what it is/does.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think it is a scope stop. Being a PCP it wouldn't really need one and I've never seen one on any of my other PCPs. I don't own any springers, but do springer rifles (that might actually need one) have it on their rifles?

What the heck is a barrel detent pin... Is that to keep the barrel in place? And why the heck would air arms leave it sticking up a quarter of an inch?

I think the only reason it bugs me is that I don't see any good reason for it to be there.

Thanks for the link, BigTinBoat. I guess I can see how the pin stops the scope from being mounted too far back and thus keeps the magazine retaining clip from being interferred with. However, the scope could be mounted about an inch farther back at which point it would be off the dovetail before it interferes. So, again. It seems pretty pointless.

My only other thought is that it might be needed for a fancy sight attachment for something other than a scope, but I have no idea what that would be.

I guess I'll just uses it like a few others here suggested; as a reference point for reattaching my scope so that it will be close to zero.
