What is the most accurate pcp up to 225 yards and less than $1500

At the range I enjoy going to, the max distance is only 225 yards. I already have a BSA R10 .22 cal that is very accurate at 100 yards.

I'm asking the membership for their recommendations for the most accurate pcp, .22 or .25 caliber pcp air rifle at a max cost of $1500 which I would dedicate to 125 to 225 yard target shooting. It's likely that I will only shoot slugs at these distances.

I'm on the preorder list for a FX Impact m3 and think the price at $2500 would be over kill if I am only shooting 125 to 225 yards. Hence, my $1500 max price range.

Hey Rod 225 yards is quite far for an airgun. Don't get me wrong its possible but wind calling will be pretty hard even with with an FX. What your looking for is power if you want to stretch out that far. A high BC bullet would be your best bet. If I was looking to get out that far I'd be looking into a .257 air force texan and I would get a tank and an external regulator. Both can be found at airtanksforsale.com. the Texan is an 1100 dollar gun. Don't get the carbine get the longest barreled one they have. For a couple hundred more you can get the LSS which is much quieter and comes with a moderator. It has a single shot breech which is a plus for long distance because you can carefully place the bullet into the barrel. There are several other guns that can do what you want but I can't think of any that are less than 2000 bucks. Honesty whenever I want to get out that far I start looking at powderburners. Maybe someone here knows of a cheaper airgun that can consistently reach out that far but I really think your going to have to find a dedicated slug gun to do that distance effectively. I live in the bay area too. The wind keeps me inside 100 yards and often inside 75. If you would like to see what that bottle set up is like you can pm me and we can go out to a public range and I'll teach you how to use the gear. Your going to need a fill source and getting out that far is going to require some pretty expensive gear. Its never the gun that ends up costing you the most in the long range game its air source. If you get a gun for inside 100 yards there are some great options for pellet guns that will be no Problem for you to hand pump until you can buy a tank or compressor. I'm a member of the Diablo Rod and Gun club and normally shoot at the range every Wednesday. I refill my own scba tank with Yong Hang compressor which has been working perfectly for the past 6 months. I will research the TexanLSS to see what it offers.. Thanks for chiming in.

Looks like the Texan LSS .25 with a new hard case is the winner at $1245 including free shipping and not California sales tax.

The unforeseen cost would be the regulator for $500 from airtanksforsale.com to have my scba bottle tethered to the rifle. Is tethering what most Texan shooters are doing? Or is there some type of work around. I have the typical Scott 4000 psi SCBA tank and refill my own tanks. I'm wondering how many shots per fill is not tethered?

@Rodjava. Great choice. Do some bbl prep work (firelap), slug the bbl and get a sizing die. Lube your slugs and get trigger time . A good reg that that will hold 5 fps is needed. My setup

Great intel everybody. Thanks for chiming in with your comments and suggestions. I already placed my order with Utah Air Guns.

I'm now researching the different SCBA tank regulators. There seems to be 2 different types at 2 different price points. One fellow member suggested that I won't need to tether at all. I would like to hear your experiences with either regulators if possible.

Looks like .257 slugs 70 grains and heavier are hard to find online. I really want to shoot only 1 brand of slug at the same weight so that I can dial in the .257 Texan. I really want to try NSA slugs, but they are also not available. Anybody have any suggestions of a good "starter" slug and weight, that is readily available, please let me know.

I’d agree with the suggestions for a .257 Texan long. The 1:14 twist barrels like the 257420 slug. I’ve had good success with the Arsenal 257420 BT.

You can get a mold and cast your own. That’s what I do. Takes some time but I use whatever scrap lead I get so slug cost is low.

Do proper lubing and sizing for best results. I settled on about 990fps but they shoot good from 920-1030fps.

The 257388 slugs were also OK but not better. I think they are near the max for a 1:14 barrel, while the 257420 is near ideal. 225yds is no problem.

For fun, I shot my custom .257 at an N50 match. The rules allow factory airguns and slugs up to .30 caliber to compete with rim fire. Except that for a custom gun over .22 caliber, only pellets. I decided to try the heaviest .25 pellets available. I shot 34gr pellets from my .257 slug gun and scored a 623. Not good but not horrible. The winning gun was a .22 rim fire with 731.

If they made a commercial 45gr+ pellet in .257 caliber, a .257 could be decent pellet gun.

THANKS TO ALL THE MEMBERSHIP FOR CHIMING IN!

It's all coming together now. In 2 weeks or so, I should be at the range shooting the farthest targets at my range. 
I ordered some FX No Limit scope rings for my element Optics Helix 6x24 scope. With my BSA R10, I needed to add a shim on the rear scope ring so that I can see the target at 150 yards with hold over at the very bottom of the reticle. Too bad the Texan does not have a built in 20 MOA scope rail like the FX Impact M3. However, I should be fine at 225 yards with my setup.

I'm starting off with 6 different .257 grain slugs from NSA, , Griffin and AVS. It should be fun to narrow down the best slug for 225 yards and PSI.. Then I'm likely to make my own slugs. Either cast or swaged. I'm a home shop machinist so either process should be a piece of cake.
