What have you done with your airgun today?

Didn't have much time, but I played around with the shims on my PARD, then realized I had put them on the wrong side of the mounting bracket and they weren't shimming anything at all, since that side of the bracket hangs free in the air. Doh! Put them back on the right way, on top, but then had to start dinner and now it's a project for tomorrow.

Also put up a couple of pieces of plywood at 25 yards, that I'll put some more sticky targets on tomorrow. It can be very hard to see where a .177 hits a target unless you are using splatter targets!

Am surprised how loud the Avenger .177 is. Haven't shot it with a moderator yet, though. Sounds like a nail gun basically. Probably just because I'm a newbie. I see videos constantly where you can hardly hear a shot no matter what the rifle, and then my Marauder pistol and this Avenger sound like a .45 in comparison.

I set up a bunch of targets in the back yard and took my 2240 for another spin. At 25 yards it seemed to like the 14.3gr Crosmans better than the 15.89 JSBs. Maybe the pistol just shoots better with the lighter pellet.

Ok back to more shooting.

Switched the scope on my 1720 to the new vector compact 3-12 SFP from vortex diamondback 4-16. Lighter and more compact with a little shorter eye relieve. Zeroed it in and sniped a sparrow in the head at 25 yards. I love the 1720T!!! I shoot it way way more than the impact now because it’s way more back yard friendly. My impact is tuned way too hot for the back yard also.

I glanced in my airgun's general direction. That is all I could do: Broken washing machine, new one about to arrive today. Broken kitchen sink faucet (Saturday morning). It's replacement also on the way, FedX overnight from Moen. (Hint: Don't think those expensive faucets last any longer than the $27 faucets in Walmart. They don't. They just have a lifetime replacement warranty, but they break JUST AS OFTEN, as I just found out.) Commandant Momma is not happy. So the LAST THING I need is for ReichsFuhrer Robin to catch me fiddlin' around with my airguns right now.

Today I decided to test out some old .177 caliber pellets I have not used in a long time. Shooting was done at 20yrds off a rest with a Crosman springer.

First up was some ancient Daisy flat nosed pellets that shot pretty good. Then some Gamo Match Diaoblos that shot even better. Last and the least I tried some Daisy Pointed pellets which were absolutely terrible. I'd say the group size was about 8". The pellet tin does not even list the weight. Fortunately I have only one tin of these so I'm not stuck with a whole bunch of them. Any of you guys ever try these? They are the worst pellets I ever tried to shoot.

Well......I started seriously testing the 4.52mm 8.4 grain Air Arms Domes in my .177 HW95 vs the boxed 7.9 drain die lot marked and dated Crosman Premiers.

The 4.52mm AA domes fit rather loosely in the larger leade of my .177 R9 but are snugger fitting to the tighter HW95 leade. I've shot a few 18 yard groups with the AA domes and they do look promising...........

Here are a couple groups shot sitting on a bucket resting the gun on cross sticks.......

I haven't tested them at 30 and 50 yards but will before winter. 😁

I added a (relatively) inexpensive CF tank to my FX Dreamline Lite Compact and now can shoot 4 (18 round) mags before refilling instead of just 2.

I knew that the Compact had the larger OD shroud, so the FX (and many other) standard 480cc CF bottles would not work.

Bought an FX ALU 500cc bottle since it had a smaller OD than the FX CF bottle, and was much cheaper ($99). Just barely contacted the gun's shroud just distal to the shoulder of the bottle. And anyway it was too heavy to be right for the lightweight gun.

Found a 370cc CF bottle on eBay, shipped from CA instead of from China, $133 plus ship, and with a smaller yet OD than the FX ALU bottle. No valve, but heck, I've got an FX ALU bottle with valve which didn't work for the gun, maybe I can just swap it to the China CF bottle?

Yup, valve was correct threads, screwed right in and held air. So now I have a gun which is still relatively lightweight and compact, where I get 72 full power shots off a fill instead of 36. China CF bottle clears the shroud easily. Just barely clears a mounted Tanto.

Could have saved the fiddling and just purchased a compatible (55mm dia or less) CF bottle with valve from Best Fittings in the U.K. (theirs is 300cc volume), but I am currently having issues with another shipment from the U.K. (stuck at USPS LAX since 8/21), and I already had what I figured would be a compatible valve. eBay China CF bottle was delivered in 3 days.

Tried out .25 NSA 26 grain slugs out of my superior heavy liner today, looks very promising. First picture is 30 yard zeroing targets and basically touch each other, pulled one so that was me.

Best group at 90 yards is an inch and half ish, sorry the target is a bit cluttered. This was with 5-6 mph wind so pretty good considering.

this is just me tuning the gun to to get to desired speed, was shooting around 900fps. Didn’t have enough slugs to do a full tune so just shot at the target. Going to order some 26, 29 and 33 grain slugs to see which one the heavy barrel likes the best, so far the 26 grain seems to be doing better than the 33 grain which is a bit of surprise but I haven’t found a windless days to do some harmonic tuning.

Got 2 .177 barrels For my PP700 from Wes @ airgunarcheryfun.ca, didn’t realize he has one that got crowned and polished but even the cheap OEM barrel is impressively accurate.

whats cool is the 16 inch barrel for the PP700!!! Haven’t tested accuracy yet because waiting on one piece scope mount. Test tired and it has extra 70-80 FPS over the OEM barrel at the same setting in .177 caliber, .22 should be a little more. I can get get 35 shots at 11.5 FPE with that tiny little air cylinder, it’s awesome! The OEM shroud is nice and helps with the noise but extra speed is awesome! So hard to choose what to do! Maybe I should get another pp700 so I can have both or 3 with longer .22 barrel!!!!

Wes @ airgunarcheryfun.ca is awesome and shipped the barrels right away and got into my grubby little hands in 4 days!

PP700 pic:

PP700 with 16 inch barrel and carbon sleeve(have to have it so it can tension against action so the barrel will thread in) and tatsu.

this little gun is super awesome!

Tuned my 1720T down to 620fps, changed the transfer to factory high power Version which is smaller than the 2240 TP that was in there. Had it lower at around 560fps but it was shooting 1 inch groups or more at 20 yards. Now it’s back to pellet on pellet.

im finding myself tuning my Airguns lower and lower power (besides the impact), is it strange or maybe I’ve finally found airgun Nirvana of airgun? I found myself tired of seeking more power and let the guns decide which power level they like.
