What do I do? (scope missing in shipping)

Weird to ask on here I know, but what the heck... I'd like some opinions.

I ordered a scope on ebay (yeah yeah I know...). Its now 12 days late past the estimated arrival date and the tracking has not been updated since the 6th where it says "arrived at sorting facility, in transit- arriving late". This was priority 2 day mail. Obviously its lost in limbo somewhere, I can wait as its not the end of the world but at what point do I contact the seller? 2 weeks? 3 weeks? a month? Obviously it has insurance on it so if it doesn't come someone should get paid right? I KNOW its not the sellers fault and I feel absolutely terrible about asking them for assistance with the issue as they did everything correct and its all USPS fault.. I don't know what to do. My other packages shipped later have all came now (all late, but they were updated along the way and all have arrived). I feel this one is just lost in a facility somewhere, I'm sure it will get to me when its found and back in line but how long is appropriate to wait? As far as I am aware its the sellers responsibility to do the replacement/insurance part of a package lost in shipping as they have the receipts and paperwork.

Would it be totally out of line if I contact the seller 2 weeks after the estimated arrival date and asked for a replacement to be sent and promise to return one if/when they both do arrive? I mean I'd like to shoot that gun sometime...

You've waited plenty long enough!

Contact the seller, let them know that the product hasn't arrived, and ask them for a replacement to be sent or a refund of funds. Also, advise them that they might consider starting a claim so they can get their $ back for their merchandise.

They might send you a replacement or, they might start a tracing process through a claim. Either way, the time to get things moving is right now.

With priority 2 day mail, I would have waited until day 3-4. If you wait too long, you stand the chance of raising suspicion as to why you didn't act sooner.

Good luck!!

Tom

The first thing I would do is go to your local post office and give them your tracking number and they can look it up in their system. USPO can see more detail than you can on the net about where the package is. Find this information first. Then relay the information to seller that if it doesn’t show up you need to make a claim on PP due to non delivery of product.

I just went through this myself with a scope, very similar situation. It was priority mail and stuck in Atlanta for 10 days with no updates. I contacted the seller through ebay and two days later they send me a complete refund. So the very next day, which was this past Friday the scope shows up. This was 14 days after it had shipped and I am less than a three hour drive to where it was shipped from. I have already contacted the seller asking them to send a paypal request so I can pay them the money back. I would still report it, they have a few days to resolve it through ebay and can ask that you wait a few more days before shipping you another one or refunding your money. Either way it’s their responsibility to check with the shipper to locate the package.

Looks like I’m done ordering dumb stuff for a while. By the looks of things, if you order something, you are just asking to get pissed off. Maybe a lot of us should take some time off from senseless spending until after the holidays. When things level out after everyone returns all their Christmas gifts we will have a bunch of free credit card space to go nuts with.

USPS has been horrific in the last couple of weeks. ALL of my shipments both inbound and outbound were late last week with the same arriving late staus you have. Priority Mail was taking 8 days to come down the coast from WA to CA. Even within CA from SoCal to NorCal it was 5 days.

Its always been slower this time of year but this year has been the worst ever.

Sorry but in this case it’s not the seller’s responsibility and eBay will agree with him. The responsibility lies with the USPS. They were the last ones to touch the shipment.
Your next steps....

You are covered by eBay money back guarantee. File the claim with them. Do your due diligence and read the following and file the claim.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy?id=4210

As noted above, shipments are not as fluid as we would like particularly this time of year with all that is going on around us.
good luck and I hope you see either your scope or your money back soon.

Dave I’m an eBay seller and EBay will not and never have protected sellers , they are extending undelivered item case by 10 days for us and are aware of the post problem(s) but trust me Ebay don’t ever agree with sellers Never. The sorting machines the post office utilized say in Denver all 11 of them were taken out of building before election , makes one wonder don’t it
