Up Date: What did I do wrong

I removed the regulator in my Impact to see what gen I had. I want to order a Huma reg as I have creep in the gun. Got the Huma and installed it as per instructions and when I aired it up I had no regulator pressure and gauge showed 0. I then reinstalled original regulator and aired it up and could get 45 bar max no matter what the adjustment.

What did I do wrong. Any help would be appreciated. I will call FX tomorrow and see what they think.

The regulator piston is sitting too deep in it's bore because you have a 14mm instead of the 16mm you need. Take one of the tiny white discs that came with the Huma and drop it into the hole where the regulator piston goes into the receiver and install the regulator. this should get you working fine until you get the correct piston.

Edit: I found a picture... the little hole at the top is being blocked by the o-ring since the piston is too far out of the regulator.

Do not tell fx you took out the reg. It void your warranty. If they find out you mess with the reg it will void it and you will have to paid to get it fix

No it won't, FX has videos instructing you how to do it. Also entire warranties can't be voided in the USA, only the warranty on the part in question. FTC has rules for that.

I installed the white plastic spacer as per the instructions. My gun is about a year and half old. The serial number is 1812xx as per the instruction sheet that makes it a gen 2 by Huma manual. my real concern is why can't I get any higher than 45 bar when I reinstalled the original regulator. The piston is 16mm with 8mm washers. What is the correct number of washers for this piston and what way do they go on the piston.

Earnest does all kind of vidoes on how to take fx guns apart and rebuild them. But that doesn't mean it won't void your warranty. It's only for those who want to twinker with their guns.

Video at 1:00. He said taking the reg out will void your warranty and they will know if you mess with it. They make those kind of videos to help folks who want to mess around or fix their own guns.

They can not void the entire warranty for removing one part. Although this is not an exact example it's covered under the same law and the FTC will act on your behalf... https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2018/04/ftc-staff-warns-companies-it-illegal-condition-warranty-coverage

Idk if fx will void op warranty for taking his reg out. I'm just giving him my advice that he shouldnt mentioned about it .Just tell fx his reg isn't working correctly. 90% of all impact has reg creep imo. Even my newly impact x with amp reg creep 10 bars overnight. Taking the reg out would damage the o ring or reg housing. I tried to take my reg out and clean it to get rid of the creep. Wasn't easy to get the piston out. Op could of damage something when he force to piston out. To take the piston out you need a a special took earnest made. Trying to force it out with pilers will damage it. I know cause I've been there. Piston is made of cheap plastic. Not brass like the Huma. Cheap ass fx. Smh

strong opinions there

90%!!, then I should be in the 10%, since I have 2 and no creep.

No, will do if you do it wrong (metal against plastic not good). You do not need that exact tool (I have one ER give it to me) you just need to be careful and not use metal to take out the piston (I believe is Acetal/delrin made)

Cheap ass fx. Smh

Now I agree! jajaja Huma copy FX reg and make it better, just changing the piston. But pretty sure FX will change the piston to metal soon (I know ER is working on it), too bad than after all the FX impact gens (5 already?) they still use that plastic piston. A gain for Huma!

I never used any tool to remove the piston. What I do is apply a small puff of air thru the pressure guage hole it pops the piston out. Be sure to cover the reg hole with your finger you don't want to launch the piston. As far as the warranty I don't expect it to be repaired under warranty I did this and I will fix it. If I can get help from other that have been there thank you.

I'm new to the air gun world and want to learn all I can about them. I have been in the powder burning side of firearms for 55 years as a gunsmith so I have a need to understand how the air rifles work. I love a challenge and will fix it and understand what happened.

However all that said 1/4 lb of C4 cures a lot of problems. 😃

I still need to know how many washers on the factory piston

Thanks for the help keep it coming

Mine (stock reg) had 14 washers. Two of which were approx .011" thick, the rest (other 12) were roughly .014"

My Huma reg came with an assortment which were "supposedly" two different strengths or colors (green and yellow or "A" and "B")...

Unfortunately one variant (baggie) supplied by Huma had two (of eight) washers that were just over ,016" adjacent to the remaining six which were a shade under .014" thick. Two of the "oddball" stock shims were close enough to the thinner shims furnished by Huma, which I substituted in order to avoid delay/contesting integrity of furnished product. In the end my Huma reg is working well.

In summary.... The Huma reg parcel while superior, did provide marginal component integrity.

Good idea on taking the piston out.

15 washers on new models, 11 on old ones. (stock) huma mention how many wahers in their manual: http://foto.huma-air.com/foto/Installation%20guide%20FX%20Impact.pdf

As for warranty, iwhere I live is a joke, first time I got a problem ... the answer was: take it to the store, I say ok, when I will have my impact reviewed? answer was...we don´t know since the person who does that is not in Chile...I say: Ok but when does he/her come back...answer: we do not know...so GREAT support! jajaja since then I learn and I have been a PITA on Ernest Rowe, and I have learn so much, never bought an airgun from that local dealer again and now I am helping others to repair.

A pic of the Huma reg Piston...see metal...That makes the difference

I called FX today and the person in the technical support said I needed 16 washers on piston. I installed 16 washers on piston and assembled. Run up air and set reg to 140 bars and test fired worked like before. I then removed and tried the Huma as per instructions and it wont work. So I reinstalled the original regulator and set it up and it works fine now.

I will shoot about 100 rounds and then see if I have any creep after it sits overnight .

Thanks for the help and let me know if anyone has some ideas on the Huma.

I had the same problem...

After thinking about this more, a small grove from the hole to the end of the piston shaft should fix the problem completely.

Don't enlarge the hole and no need to go deep. You just need a little air to pass when the hole is covered by the o-ring to get things started.

A good scratch with a scribe should do it but give the edges of the scratch a light polish.
