What are some high shot count PCP air guns?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy another PCP. Yep, the PCP fever has got me, I'm sick. The only cure is another gun!

I have the Vulcan .25 and love it, but I want something in .22 that has a much higher shot count between fills than the Vulcan so I can fill'er up and go shoot for a while in the field without carrying a refill tank around. So higher is better!

Mentioned so far:
  1. Woverine type B, regulated
  2. Airwolf MCT
  3. FX Royale 400
  4. FX Royals 500
  5. FX Verminator
  6. FX Gladiator MK2
  7. FX Impact
  8. BSA R10 MK2 with the carbon fiber bottle

I really like my FX Royale 400 .22. I put a 24" barrel on it. Here is one of my shot strings, something like 70 shots over 900fps using 18 JSB, many @ 40 ft pounds. This gun is an older one and not regulated. I know these speeds are a lil fast, but accuracy is exceptional. ( long barrel lots of powerful shots) , I forget what it was doing with the original barrel.

I just got the FX Verminator in .22 cal. but have not have the time to do a shot count per fill. It is supposed to get over 100 shots on high power. It has a three position power wheel and shot count will go up on lower power. The Gladiator write up on AOA says that on the low power setting you should be able to shoot close to a full tin of pellets on a fill. They sell the Gladiator with and without the regulator which should improve shot count and fps consistency. The power wheel settings for the Gladiator in .22 cal. put out 13,21,34 fpe. Bill

Since I bought the Bobcat MK 2 in 25 and wore myself out shooting over the Chronograph on the first 5 fills, I can say that I will never purchase another unregulated rifle.
If 80 shots on High Power and 140 shots on Low Power with a 230 Bar fill isn't enough then I would simply suggest tethering to your biggest Air Tank filled to the sweet spot of the rifle, it works but gets boring.

Really any of the high end bottle guns or those modified to a larger reservoir should meet any of your needs.

Sometimes though when I prepare to go hunting I think back to my Uncle and his idea of squirrel hunting. A single shot 20 H&R and just 6 shells in his pocket. His advise was to make every shot count and would always come in from the field with his 6 squirrel limit. I use that same technique when I go Deer hunting. Single shot and 2 rounds. I can only kill 1 deer for the Tag I carry so why load yourself down. The second shell I carry for the guy that thinks he can take that deer from me. So that being said I respect the man in the woods that is carrying a single shot rifle or shotgun.

Back to air gun hunting of squirrel I sometimes grab the little 22 Brocock. Limited air and light weight but manage my shots accordingly to get the legal bag limit. Now this brings us to another discussion as to legality of the air gun use for such a purpose. So the squirrels taken are taken on the premise of being destructive little varmints that taste really good in a stew or properly breaded and fried.

Good write up fr8rbum747, I agree when hunting make every shot count. But when I'm out, I just like to shoot, so I might be plinking at shells, or shooting at posts in the water, or popping a can I find down the beach. That's why I'm looking for high shot count, don't want to tote a refill tank if possible. Sure I'll eventually need refill, but want to stretch out the fun in between.

HauntedMystHave you considered a 12fpe gun? The english use them all the time with great effectiveness and when you look at something like a BSA R-10 in 12fpe, you're talking about 225 shots per fill. Swap out the standard bottle for a large carbon fiber bottle and you should be able to nearly double that.

Are you talking .177 or .22? But I agree for backyard shooting, that is the bomb!

.22 gets more shots per fill in 12fpe because it's easier to push. .177 gets 165.

I would recommend the FX Impact. I have the .25 cal and I'm shooting the 25 grain JSB's because of shot count. I'm getting around 80 shots per fill. If you got the .22, it would be over 100. You could also drop the power for plinking and raise it back for hunting. I went rabbit hunting in Arizona recently and it didn't go so well. I got one in three days of wondering the desert. I did shoot a lot of random things though. I'd be walking around and see a rock and wonder if I could hit it. I'd range it and shoot. I shot 5 magazines of 16 shots a piece in one day without pumping (or shooting at a rabbit) and I was just above 150 bar on my tank and the reg pressure was still reading 150.
