Welcome to my backyard (shooting range drone video)

Just before father's day weekend I stumbled on a drone deal that was too good to pass up 😉 Here's a rough video of my backyard shooting range. The video is right out of the drone (no edits) so like I said, it's bit rough but I though I'd share it here. It seems like a lot of folks like to get these big vistas, but I really like the challenge of flying in tight spaces :)

Nice video 'neighbor'!

I'm originally from Cortland Country - south of you,
and now I'm in Wayne County - north of you.
There's a bunch of us Central/Upstate NYers on here.

Great looking range! And your footage was nice too!

I played a game of 'spot the transmitter' when your quad was panning around..
Did you go with a Mavric? or a Spark?

I've been big into the RC [flying] scene for about 7 years [Also "DirtyDovi" on RCGroups, etc]
and I'm all about aerial video platforms. Tricopters, Quadcopters, Hexacopters, Octocopters..

There's more of us 'RC Pilots' on here also, so it's cool to see that you're into that hobby too!

🙂👍

Welcome Mr. Matt!

Ah right on, the Mavic Air is a Great little rig, and you sure did get some killer footage!
Mavic! Mavic!! Mavic!! I keep calling them "Mavric". haha

Thanks for the videos bro! I can watch footage like that all day! Awesome stuff!

You aren't kidding about the tech involved!

The systems that I've built in the past were all Non-GPS based..
Accelerator / Barometer / Magnetometer, and auto works nice, but I mostly fly fully manually..
There's just no comparing them to the locked on flying on rails like stability of GPS setups like yours!

I flew a Yuneec Typhoon a few years back, and the thing just blew me away..

🙂👍

Good to see youre still around Matt! Nice place. How is that sidelever rifle treating you?

I fly quads too but not with cameras. I have a little Eachine Wizard 220 that I fly line of sight. My dad and one of my sons fly FPV (first person view/goggles). I tried FPV but it didn’t appeal to me AND I was too cheap to get the gear so I stick with Line of sight flying.

Hey thanks bReTt - I actually sold the Royale a year or more ago. It was a great rifle but I decided that the equity I had in it could be better used elsewhere. I used the proceeds from selling it to buy a used Shoebox compressor (no more trips to get the tank filled) and got a Kral Bigmax in .22. No, it's no where as polished of a rifle as the FX, but I have learned a ton modifying it. This is stuff I would NEVER have been brave enough to do on the FX...

I had to google the Eachine Wizard 220 you mentioned. What a rip! I can totally see how that would be a blast!

Great range. If you are interested, Hunterone is a great photographer and person who uses a drone for some beautiful vistas. Here's his drone youtube page

Thanks BD! Wow, thank you for sharing Nunterone's youtube channel. This video of his is absolutely spectacular!

Oh, in an effort to keep this thread somewhat airgun related... ;-) Here's a cool photo shot through a 3x scope I have been playing with. The target is one of Air Venturi silhouettes at 30 yards:

Drones are the best . . . for the first couple of weeks, then 99% of them end up sitting unused in on the shelf :(

I was amazed when I first got my Mavic Pro last year. I flew it a few times around the property and was so giddy about all the things I could possibly do with that drone. After about a dozen flights, it was grounded and neglected in its case for almost a year. Then I started wondering why I ever bought it (and all of the extra accessories that come along with it) in the first place. For me, the possibility / inevitability of crashing it creates too much paranoia to really enjoy the drone flying experience. Even in the few flights that I had, I had a couple of close calls where the controller reset or lost connection with the drone and I thought it would end up flying off into the wild blue yonder, never to be seen again.

Then the Mavic 2 Pro came out . . . so, of course, I had to sell the old one and spend even more money on the newer, better model! Got a bunch of extra accessories for the M2P too and have flown it . . . a total of two times!!! But man, that new Hasselblad camera is so nice!!!

I hope you get better use out of your drone than me / most people. :)
