pirellip,
Do you have a custom barrel shroud and lever latch on your HW77K? If so who makes it? Very nice Gary Cane custom stock.
Curious,
Leo
Hi Leo,
It's actually a Warren Edwards stock that he made for me and custom fitted it to that action.
It's a 1980s 25mm action I sent to Steve Pope of VMach and he added the 'overbarrel' to it (it has slots milled into the top past the muzzle, so it really has no sound reducing value). He does this to add rigidity.
The lever latch is also his custom design, he sells a similar style that can be added to any 97. Some (the newer ones) require a modification to the end of the lever, depending on which one you have. It's purpose is to reduce the effect of the lever on the barrel.
He also replaced the rivet connecting the cocking lever to the cocking linkage with a pin that's threaded on both sides and held in place with bolts so the linkage can be easily replaced in-field if that little tab that pushed against the cylinder ever breaks.
The loading port had also been previously milled down on the right side so it is as big as the 97s
Then he had everything Nickle plated.
His VGlide powerplant was installed, and it shots very consistently is reliable regardless of the conditions/location (the barrel has always been really accurate and had been previously accurized).
It also had one of his 'resettable safety levers' (you can re-engage the safety after you've turned it off) which you can also buy from him and it fits in any HW that uses a Rekord trigger unit.
I use a very light trigger, and on 2 occasions it caused me to loose the feel of the 2nd stage (of course the 2nd time was in the middle of a big competition!) so I ended up removing it and don't use a safety. I also removed the anti bear trap so I can decock the rifle without shooting it.
Overall I'm really happy with it so far and I have full confidence in the rig.
This year I pulled out the VGlide so I could give Tony Leach's 22mm conversion a try and also installed a TX200 trigger unit. So far I love the reduced recoil surge of the 22mm, and it's 'easier' to shoot, but I need to sped more time with it in different conditions/locations to determine if it is as consistent and reliable as the VGlide powerplant.
