Weihrauch HW35L show and tell

I picked this little lady up last year. It is the luxus model and dates back to 1956 give or take.

I did a quick chrony test and the results were 532fps using JSB Exact Express 7.87
So I proceeded to order a new rebuild kit from Vortek and a breech seal from AirRifleHeadquarters.
In the meantime I started working on the stock. It had lots of battle scars and the butt plate was missing a chunk. It is nearly impossible to find an original. So I had to refurbish this one.

I ground the jagged edge off it and epoxied on a piece of ABS plastic and started to reshape it.

After a little filing, here are the results

On to the stock refinish.

I stripped it down using Aircraft paint remover.

After putting the steam to it and sanding out a few of the deeper gouges,

I then decided to try out the snake oil Joe Rhea was using and found I liked the results. Tru-oil is incredibly easy to work with.

Parts arrived for the rebuild and after a little polishing of the internals, replacing spring, piston and breech seals she is now shooting JSB Exact Express 7.87 and average of 654fps

What she looks like with the metal installed.

This lady has some nice curves and she ain't too fat either like some of those Match rifles. She weighs in at around 8 lbs as you can see.

I broke her in on some metal out back and decided to see how she'd do at 10 meters.
Here is results using H & N Match pistol

Here is results using JSB E.E. which fared a bit better.

Here is 10 shots shooting off hand from standing position at 10 Meters

Remember she has iron sights. The front post covers the whole center of the target as you can see here.

She is not a powerhouse but absolutely a blast to shoot.

That's a stunner Wadcutter !!!

I've got one from the same era in .22 with that same style stock/grip. Mine had a rust ring in the bore from a dauber's mud plug, which is why I keep a "lid" on all my long gun barrel muzzles now, at least the ones exposed to open areas where mud-daubers might visit. That 35L is now a carbine, re-barreled with a new HW "spare".
