Weighing, sorting and lubing Crosman Premier lights..............

Replies to a previous pellet lubing thread prompted me to wash & weigh and lube my remaining 4 boxes of 1250 count, Die lot “B”, Date code Feb3 2014, 7.9 grain Crosman Premiers, and also try your “Pledge pellet lube process”. Here is the result after sorting 3 full boxes and a partial box……….
First I calibrated my “Smart Weigh Digital Jewelry Scale GEM20” advertised to be accurate to .001 Grams 0.015gr)……..

Then I divided up the pellets into three lots, the weight variation of each lot from lightest to heaviest is less than .1grain (LOL…..ignoring the obvious plus/minus “rounding off”)………..

After weighing over 4000 CPLs I found the “odd balls” to be interesting with (3) squished skirts, (2) as light as 7.80gr, (7) 8.16gr, & (5) 8.18gr.
LOL……from over 4000 pellets weighed, excluding the few shown in front of the boxes, the variation from 7.90gr to 8.14gr is less than .24 grain! Pretty consistent overall, however if I take the heaviest pellet at 8.19gr and subtract the lightest at 7.80gr the variation is still only .39 grain. Hummm….kinda makes me wonder if the weighing exercise for the remaining boxes of CPLs I had was worth the time weighing over a couple days.Even though the CPLs are listed as a nominal 7.9 grain, after washing the pellets there were very few weighing 7.9gr with the vast majority weighing 8.00gr-8.06gr (a .06gr spread)………..

These pellets are head sized to 4.50mm using a home made pellet head sizer/pellet skirt “rounder” to guarantee consistent size pellet heads regardless of the actual “second metric decimal point” so now the pellets have been “lubed with Pledge” as you described in one of your replies. I’ve been using aerosol Slick50 One Lube on CPLs for decades simply to minimize bore fouling and ease the bore cleaning chore when needed. The OneLube has performed the “assigned task well”, however the stuff will diesel in my R9/HW95 if it accidentally gets into the pellet skirt. Seems that OneLube does on occasion get into the pellet skirts (even when carefully applied) as can be “smelled” occasionally. Hopefully the “Pledged pellet” won’t get into the pellet skirts since the carriers evaporate leaving behind a thin wax coat. I don’t know for sure but I do suspect that OneLube (being oil) might be migrating into the pellet skirts on occasion by “capillary action” while the pellets are stored in my pellet pouch. Whatever the reason, with OneLube I do get an OCCASIONAL “whiff of Grey Hound Bus diesel exhaust”.Anywhoo……judging by the feel of the CPLs that were “Pledged” as you described is encouraging, however only by shooting will I be sure that the occasional minor diesel smell is gone since my springer internals have been lubed with Krytox GPL205 for years now.
