WC MKII .25 Compact - something I find odd

Shoots fine, haven't touched HS or Reg adjustment. (just to get that out of the way)

There is a rubber ball protruding from the air tube a few inches in front of the action (just a bit behind the rear barrel/tube clamp). I was told today that this is the equivalent of a pressure release valve in case the tube was over filled.

1 seems like a bad way to do this, the rubber ball is going to go bad at some point regardless of fill pressure

2 it protrudes far enough from the tube that I cant even begin to imaging removing the tube from the gun without prying the tube/barrel mounts apart. there isn't enough room to unscrew the tube from the barrel and use the gap at the bottom of the clamp as a pass though for the ball.

3 I've read other stories about that ball/plug simply being a plug for a hole that got drill in many WC tubes that was just in the wrong place (use of salvageable parts). I cant find that post now. Honestly, not even sure what forum I saw it on.

Am I worrying too much about this? Seems that it would absolutely require a trip to FX USA if the plug ever failed but beyond that, since it doesn't seem like there is enough clearance, I don't think I'd even be able to easily replace the reg (assuming Huma makes one that would be a direct fit with the eternal adjustment, I haven't looked)

Been a long day, maybe (maybe) I'm just being cranky.

JCD, yes, I inquired about that ball, too, and what you said, about having a hunch or heard a rumor about maybe it being a patch job to a hole accidentally drilled was a topic of discussion between me and another WC MK2 owner.

What I’m curious about, is someone recently got an WC MK2 and asked what a certain hole on his gun was, at the left side, and all who knew said it was his regulator adjustment. The hole was above the stock line, and easily accessed. On my two month old, newly released 30 cal, there is no hole above the stock line. The reg access is hidden under the stock. I totally understand high volume, production work, and the chance of an accident happening and it being found after thousands had been done is possible. Now, do you eat the costs and rebuild a thousand new ones, or just say screw it, and the owners of these guns will just have to remove their stock to access the reg.

Im not even gonna go down any bashing on FX, cause frankly, I’m one, never gonna mess with that reg, and two, consider myself lucky to even own a gun of this quality. Owning one of these was a mere pipe dream of mine, that just came to reality last week. I just would like to know why mine is different from others I’ve seen that is also an MK2 version, that’s all. And, I, too, wanna know exactly what that hole with the rubber ball is all about.

Gentlemen,

That little black rubber ball is to cover the AMP Regulator adjustment grub screw. You should have received an small Allen wrench with your rifle. The hex screw under the stock is not for adjusting the regulator. Turning adjuster Counter Clock Wise increases pressure and Clock Wise decreases pressure. When decreasing pressure make 1/4 turns and fire to release pressure.

I will chime in. On my new wildcat MK2 30 cal the little rubber ball is on the right side. Removed the rubber ball, no adjustment for regulator. Removed stock and the adjustment hole and adjustment screw is left side. The hole is covered by the stock. I think FX needs to hire some technical writers to write technical documentation before they release products. It would help their end customers. It is also odd that FX dealers and FX haven’t chimed in on this.

This is all interesting in the sense that there are multiple stories. In my case, the retailer was my source. Pressure relief made no sense but I haven't even removed the stock yet so I let it be.

Today is devoted to something different so I may find out more next week (by trial and error that is...), but I also may call FX first and see what their story is. I think the retailer's story was a load of BS, but I don't know if he believed it or if he thought he'd just brush me under the rug. If the second and I find out about it.... I may have to change hobbies. I'm running out of retailers that haven't lied to me.

James,

When I first got my .25 Compact, I went through the same scenario.Trust me there is a little grub screw under that rubber ball. Mine was silver so I couldn't see the grub screw. Do not play with the grub screw under the stock. I believe that screw has something to do with venting. My rifle is for repair at Fx Usa or I would take picture for you.

Nick,

I just saw Wildcat MK II in the title, and now realize that JCD, and you, have the 25 cal Compact. I'm thinking that the 30 cal is the only MK II with the new AMP regulator. Do you know if this is true? On the AMP regulator that I have, that grub screw is indeed the regulator adjustment. I apologize for the misinformation. I was jumping back and forth from this thread to the one by BigRagu, and got them mixed up. I will delete my post. Thanks for the clarification.

James
