Washing Pellets

‘This is why I wash pellets with acetone.

I don’t want this in my barrel or elsewhere.

That's two tins of JSB MKII so I guess around 600 pellets. This load seemed a little dirtier than most but I still get a lot of gunk.

I used to use Dawn and hot water but the pellets still felt like there was something on them afterwards, plus water takes a long time to dry and I seem to be a last minute guy where I'm out of pellets and want to shoot.

Acetone is a bit pricier, but the pellets come out 'squeaky" clean and acetone dries instantly. I usually hit them with a hair drier on warm for about 30 sec- to a minute and they're good to go.

I reuse the acetone a couple of times before discarding..

I’m actually getting ready to conduct an experiment on washed and lubed vs just opening up a tin and lining them. I “accidentally” washed pellets out of pure need, cause they came shipped to me loose in a box, soaking wet with some rainwater mixed with dirt in the box. Washed all 600 pellets, dried, and lubed with FP10. Miraculously those grouped way way better than the unwashed, but I need to double verify.

I soak in cleaner degreaser and and hot water, drain onto a strainer, then set out in the sun to dry or in front of a fan. Give it a day, then back in the tins they go, then doused with around a 5 second drizzle of FP10

I am trying Napier’s right now and they group great. But Napier’s is expensive. Need to find a homemade lube that’s cheaper

Anyway I put about four drops into one of those snack baggies, seal and rub the bag between my hands to evenly coat the inside. Then I put in maybe 75-100 pellets squeeze it the air, seal the bag and squish em around for about a minute to coat them all

Ive used Krytech as well.

I do it to make the barrel easier to clean but I think it helps with accuracy as well.

A really good and inexpensive alternative for pellet lube is Lemon Pledge. After the clean and dry process, I spread them out on a paper towel and spray them down and roll them around a bit. Then back in the tin they go. I started this a few months back and have fired 1,500 or so pellets lubed this way through the same rifle with excellent results. I see no need to change or try anything else. Barrel stays relatively clean and accuracy is consistently excellent with out very frequent cleanings at all.

Smells nice too.......LOL
